I just got my new Drop Point Trance in the mail yesterday! It has a flatter grind, wider blade and a slightly larger and more curved guard (tiny bummer though; they switched the clip from three screws to two). Very cool indeed!

Thanks for the comparison pics! I've been waiting to see what the differences would be. Looks like we should all have one soon then:)

Nice, thanks for posing those pics. Definitely going to be on the lookout for one of those.

I wonder if all Trances in both blade styles will have the two screw clip from now on?

Revolvergeek,
You win the "Ok, who will be the first" prize.
Great looking shots, thank you.
I can see I WILL like this knife, a flatter grind equals better slicing.:D
I can't wait for mine to arrive.
Oh, I wouldn't be concerned about the two screw clip, I have many that way and have never had one loosen.

Aloha Revolvergeek,

GaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHhhhHHhhhh!!! PICS of the production DP Trance! Thanks for sharing them...I can't wait to get MINE!!!:(

Not sure why there is a two screw clip on it now, but the reason for the "tiny bit of extra Carson Flipper" was done due to the fact that some people had trouble using the one on the original Trance.:confused::confused:

God bless and thank you for the pics!!!

Wow! That's just about perfect. The only thing that could make it better would be shrinking the guard so it would be possible to use the whole blade for slicing and chopping on a flat surface like a cutting board. It would be perfect for a camping/travel cooking knife.
:)

Aloha Grey Mullet,

Take a Dremel to that flipper and grind that sucker off if ya want it as such! Pretty easy and fast to do...just don't try to do it all at once, blade gets hot. OR, ya could hack saw it off...but the Dremel is faster.;)

God bless:cool:

hello,

gerat knife !!!
german version trance dp have only the blade label aus8. :D

bye

Not sure if it had been mentioned already as I don' t frequent this particular forum much. But the middle screw of the 3 hole clip model is a bit longer than the other 2 side end screws. At least on mine it is. I discovered this by removing and placing the clip for tip facing down pocket carry. The middle screw was long enough to screw right thru the steel scale and can easily contact the blade directly beneath it! An appropriate size washer placed between the clip and screw will solve this easily. Or stone off the extra length. Either way would work. However, while going thru my ritualistic QC check, I discovered that the middle position hole at the butt end requires a screw to hold the steel scale down against the respective spacer! Yes, you can thumb lift the scale off of the spacer with slight force. So back went the middle screw into the butt end hole!:D But this too requires an appropriate sized washer since the pocket clip is no longer there! :grumpy: This leads me to believe that both (non clip and clip side) screws thread into the spacer independently.

Now then, for these 2 hole models, I am curious to know how both scales are secured onto its corresponding spacer at that butt end! Can someone run a check on this?

Good point. I just looked at my 3 screw Trance, and you're right, the middle screw in the pocket clip does screw down into the post/spacer at the rear of the knife. From the pics, it looks like the post/spacer is in the same location, so I'm assuming they put a flush-mounted screw under the pocket clip to hold the rear of the knife together? I have a DP coming in (likely end of the week), so if nobody else answers this question before then, I'll take a look at mine and let you know.

Edit: Maybe the situation you described is why they changed them. Like you said, the middle screw is too long to work without a washer when the pocket clip is reversed for tip down carry, plus, if you use all three screws when reversing the clip, there's nothing to hold the backend together. This strengthens my assumption about there being a flush screw under the pocket clip. That way you can remove or reverse the clip and still have a screw holding the rear of the knife together. Hmmmm....If all this turns out to be true, then the new 2 screw models will actually be more desireable than the original ones. Also I wouldn't be surprised if all Trances receive the new 2 screw setup...

tip or down carry don't interfere with the back of the knive handle.
I have changed the clip positioning and the back of the G10 versus titanium is still hold in place . So whats your point :confused::confused:

this is on a 3 screw clip trance so not on the new drop point trance.,.

Maarten, here's the problem: The middle clip screw is longer than the other two because it screws past the scale into the spacer on the back of the knife:
trance01.jpg

If you use all three screws when you flip the clip around for tip down carry, you have two problems: first, there is now no screw holding the back of the scale to the spacer:
trance03.jpg

and second, the longer middle screw extends past the scale far enough to interfere with the blade, unless you place a washer between it and the clip:
trance02.jpg

So, basically, you have to remove all three screws to get the pocket clip off, and then replace the middle one so it holds the rear of the knife together, which is kind of a pain in the a$$, as it's even a hair too long for that purppose. On the new 2 screw model, you just pop out the two screws, flip the clip over to the other end of the handle, and then screw it back down. Since the new flush mounted screw under the clip now holds the scale to the spacer, you don't have to mess with it.

Btw, the Trance used for the pics has no blade right now, as I'm attempting a little customization of the blade (:D)...

P.S. It's interesting to note that the older "3 screw" model actually has a countersunk hole for the flush mount screw underneath the pocket clip. Wonder why they decided to go with a 3 screw clip initially, intead of the way they're doing it now on the DP?

DP is here! I have to concur, the Chandmeister has another winner here, no question. All hail the DP Stretch Biscuit! I'm all set now. I don't need any other knives. Well.....except.....maybe a Subclaw, PE and PS Hypers, Black PS Trance, Black PS Subcom, Red Rescom, PE and PS MPTs, and one or two others, but I swear, after that I'm done (until the muse pays Daywalker another visit at least)...;)

Now this is a good looking knife. I liked it from the very beginning - and I've seen it first, believe me! ;)
Congratulations Chad. Another great work, they'll say, but wait till they'll see the other ones  (yup, I've seen those too). :D
