I don't pay much attention so I didn't notice till yesterday the Kershaw Echelon and the Strider SJ-75 look much alike in design, or shape anyway. I find the shape very intresting. I have an SJ on the way by the way.

I wonder, did the two companies Collaborate?

Look where the plunge line on the high hollow grind starts..... the Baby Huey was the first thing of thought of when I saw the Echelon.

Annnnnnndddd bring on the fanboys.

I like the SJ, been looking at getting one. Please post up your thoughts when you get one gull wing. I'm really on the fence.

I have a SJ; I think it's a fine knife. It has the same edge length as the Sng..kind of surprised me. The wide leaf-shaped blade gives the impression of great strength. The blade thickness is 1/8", same as many great knives including the Sebenzas, at least until the latest CRK model 25. The width of the handles is 0.535", but tapers on each edge of scales to 0.380". Combine that with CC construction, and you have a folder that is delightful to carry, fits the hand very nicely even though it is short, and has all of the benefits of many larger, heavier, untapered slabs of G10/titanium out there. Yeah, I like it a lot.

I suppose I'm a Strider fanboy. I just experienced their OUTSTANDING customer service first hand, when they took in my just-acquired used PT with a broken tip, recontoured and resharpened the blade, drilled out the pivot that some previous owner had stupidly glued in place, and sent me back a like-new PT...all for the price of $14 for shipping and handling. You bet...FANBOY...ME...from central Florida. (thanks again, Josh and friends)

Wow never noticed the similarities.

Of course the Echelon is a liner lock & has a little different handle shape. Still, it will make you do a double take.

Oh, I am too. I LOVE my Striders. Carrying my SMF right now. But like bringing up Microtech (I like them too), there seems to be a lot of negative opinions on Strider knives. It's too bad, every Strider (and MT) I've owned has been top notch.

I meant the other side of the fanboys Sonny :) (Mick sucks and is the devil type of thing). So I guess, anti-fanboy is what I meant?

Sorry about that, back on track.

Not to compare the two knives, but for my purposes, the Echelon actually looks like the better buy. I prefer 14C28N over S30V, the liner lock over the titanium frame lock, and the translucent G10 also wins me over. Anything that I don't like on the Echelon (spring assisted opening and that hideous floating thumb stud thing) can easily be removed from the knife.

Price is good, too :)

Sooo.... Who designed (both) these blades? If they weren't both USA, I'd have assumed one was SRM or EnLan or Navy or some other Chinese brand...

Both were designed and manufactured here in the USA. Baby Huey (SJ-75) designed by Strider Knives and the Echelon was an in-house Kershaw design (I think).

Given their nearly identical blade profiles and the contrast with the other blade profiles produced by EITHER company, it's difficult to believe that they didn't spawn from the design construct of a single individual.

Both began promotion ~January 1st 2011 ... but indeed Thomas W said it was "in-house"...

Kind of OT but not quite: Does the Echelon have a detent hole in the tang or does it rely on the speedsafe?

Quick Report on the Strider SJ-75:
Got it this PM. Been doing this long enough to know a WINNER. It's like the Spyderco Sage I, it just IS a super knife, as is this SJ.
It is (I think) what the designers intened it to be, a slicer. It's an EDC of medium duty. It carries light and easy. It's easy to open, easy to unlock and close(is this a Strider?):D Hand feel is right on. Oh yes, it cuts.

GFY, Richard.
I have heard great reports about this Strider! Thanks.
Rolf
