Well, I'm looking for a left handed Commander and can't seem to find one.
Now, Emerson will be glad to sell me one direct from the factory for about $75 than Commanders cost from everyone else, and I can only buy it in the black finish for some reason.
Why in the world does it cost *more* to buy it directly from the factory ? I would think when you cut out the middleman, the price would go down.
And with everything I've heard about Emerson QC, how can they expect people to pay $219.95 for one of these ?

Long & short, if anyone has one of these, new or used, that they would consider selling, I would love to hear from you.

The reason that the knives cast full retail from the manufacturer, in this case EKI, is that they have to sell them for that price or else they take business away from the distributors and retailers. It is an [sometimes] unspoken agreement between a mfctr. and their distributors/retailers.
If you could buy a lefty Commander directly from EKI for $160, it would drive the retailers out of business.

While this may be true in most cases, it's not with the left handed commanders, because the only place you can buy them is from Emerson.
You can't take business away from someone who never had it, right ?

Ernie has made the decision to sell the following through Emerson Knives only. As far as I know...caveat.

Commander Trainers.

Waveless Commanders.

Left-Hand Commanders.

The New Waved CQC-7.

While it might seem unfair, and I don't really like it that much either, that is the way things are.

If you are convinced that because QC has slipped with a Company that is only a couple years old, just starting out...on a few occasions, why the hell would you pay $150.00-160.00 for a knife that has a reputation for bad QC?

The simple fact of the matter is, anyone can put out a bum knife or a series of them if one thing goes wrong. Furthermore, everyone has probably put out one that had spotty QC and Emerson is to be commended and not condemned for listening, taking criticism from people and correcting any QC problems that arise.

If you buy a knife from Ernie and something is wrong with it. He will stand behind his word.

Don't mean to sound harsh, just seems strange that if you are convinced the QC is spotty and question the $219.00 price tag, if the knife in question is so crappy, why dish out a buck and a half for one either, right?

They are rock solid knives. Call and get one. I have a Lefty, beautiful knives.

The above is a good & fair question.
The quality control problems I have heard about are mostly minor, but very annoying in a knife that costs quite a bit of money, and then, to charge return shipping for quality control work seems a bit much, at least to me.

But, I now have a right handed commander, and I must say it's a fantastic knife, especially now that I have used loctite on the pivot pin screw. However, I am left handed, and would greatly prefer a left handed model, at a reasonable price, instead of full retail price.

Wouldn't want to sell me your lefty, would you ?

Nooo...then I would have to charge you full price so I could replace it!

I want a SOCFK and a Waved CQC-7 damn it!

The following is for defensive purposes only.

If you are carrying the Commander for defensive use, and you are left handed, put a righty in the left pocket and learn how to draw it out in reverse grip. Sick.

I have a Buddy who does that, and he is fast as lightning and just as scary.

If you want to look at my Emerson's, my modest carry pieces...I just started a Thread...a few of my favorite things.

Also, I noticed you are in Texas, if you have a Texas CHL, and you are packing a HoleMaker, you want your off hand to be the knife hand for anti-grappling and weapon retention purposes anyway. Thought I would kick in the Tactical Tidbits.

Yes, I have a CHL, and while I am left handed, I shoot with the right hand..seriously, I just thought for years that I couldn't shoot worth a damn, but finally found out I just need to shoot with the right!
Now, that right handed model in the left side pocket is a great idea...I tried it a few times and it works like a charm.
Maybe I'll keep the left handed model in the left front, and the right handed model in the left rear

BTW, thanks for the info on the left handed models, now I KNOW I gotta have one..

Is this what you needed to see Dude?

mikemck,

Brigadier hit it right on the head with the reasons for our direct retail pricing. Can't expect anyone else to follow our pricing if we aren't.

Look for availability to change as we grow. Unusual models will be avasilable through dealers as our production capacity increases. This is a ways off though.

Don,

Thanks for the kind words as always. Harry Humphries was the first person to show me the "left handed guy, right handed Commander, reverse grip out of the pocket, instant mayhem" technique. Have a lot of cops using this trick for primary retention.
