The Emerson Commander wave

If you look at the blade near the thumb ramp, there is a little notch. When you draw it from the clip, the notch hooks into your pocket seam and pulls the blade open while you draw from your pocket.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guy's I figured it out when I tried it right handed. Iwonder how hard it is to get the clip turned around.
The knife is also smooth enough to open with a wrist flick.

It might be a considerable PITA to move the clip, but Emerson makes a left handed version!

This knife is TOO cool!
My AFCK hasn't left the drawer since I got mine and the wave honestly opens faster than my HALOIII.

I cut it, and I cut it, and it's STILL too short!

Does Emerson plan to integrate the wave with other folders in the production line?

EKI does offer a real left handed Commander.

The clip on a right handed Commander can be moved to the left side. Any machine shop worth it's salt can do the work for next to nothing.

EKI very recently released the SOFCK, basically it's a Specwar with a wave. Two hundred Tanto bladed and one hundred Spearpoint SOFCKs were sold through Extreme Outfitters.

Hi Diver,

I see your from MA SO,Just to let you know the wave feature is in a gray area/bourder line illegal by definition in MA.

MA GEN LAW 269 Sec 10 Dangerous weapon statute: "or any knife with a locking mechanism with a device or case which enables it to be drawn from a locked position...." A felony or misdemeanor depending on your past.

I feel they were looking for the biker holsters when they made this. Not oracles of Emersons great design. But anyway, The words are there.

I can't speak for EKI, but I do know that Extreme Outfitters has a one year exclusive on the model. After that is anyones guess.

The Emerson Commander is the knife that gets me more "Is THAT legal????" comments than any other, including autos. And I suspect that if the cops and the courts wanted to make an issue of it, the "Wave" would be in the same class as a balisong here in California, under the "any other mechanism" proviso of Section 653K of the CA penal code. But it also has a thumb stud, so it should be OK. But then is a DA auto OK? If you have to parse the language of the statue in front of a judge, your day has already been ruined.

Good going, Yeedude! How about adding the "clack!" sound when it locks up?

Just one more slightly off subject thing. I have noticed that the blade is slightly cocked in the knife when closed. and it will scrape on the liner if opened with the thumb stud right handed. Not so bad as I am a lefty, but if it gets worse what is the cause and the fix? any idea's.
John

Diver John,

What you describe is not an uncommon problem with Commanders. One fix is to take apart the knife and slightly tweak the secondary detent to take some lateral pressure off if the blade when its closed.

I'm thinking about sending my satin/plain one back to Emerson for servicing because the lock isn't solid. It will literally slide a bit towards unlocking with even a slight pressure to the tip end of the spine side of the blade...

FWIW, I didn't piece together the animated GIF. I will be, however, visiting the folks in Hong Kong in about a month or so who did. For my fellow Flashlightoholics, I've linked pictures of the SureFire E1 over at the Gadgets and Gear forum from this same site..

John: I don't think the people would mind you posting the picture to the Emerson Gallery. And even if/when they did object, you could simply remove it. Seriously, I don't think it should be a concern...

Dexter: Hmm... maybe time for a Flash plugin you think?

The draw is more dramatic up close (thanks E_WOK). Reminds me of how some LEOs draw a gun.
