Here is a pic of, (quite possibly), the last stock removal straight Carbon Steel blade I believe I'll ever make. I've been stock removing since around '92 and this year marks my switch over to the hammer and anvil method for the bulk of my knifemaking. Back then, I started out making knives from files, then D-2 and 440-c and there was a time when I used planer blades for knifemaking fodder. It is my intention to keep using 440-c for folks who MUST have a stainless steel knife, but, simple Carbon Steels all need to be hammered out.
Here's the stats:
It's 1/4" 5160 stock, full height flat ground, diff. temped and satin finished. OAL is 12 1/2" with a 7 3/4" blade. The scales are Bocote and they are secured to the full tang with 2 ton epoxy and a pair of brass Corby style fasteners and a 1/4" brass thong tube.
Thanks for looking!
All the best,
Mike U.
