The energy of the wilderness

Some people believe that there is a certain energy prevalent in the wild.

Perhaps that explains why yogis and those who seek solitude and serenity to meditate in these surroundings.

Some scientists believe that living entities, trees and other fauna, emit some form of energy that is almost undetected by modern equipment.

Maybe that is why for most of us, the wilderness is a place for rest and recuperation. Some say they are never so alive as when they are roaming in the wild.

Everything is pristine, virginal, untouched and supremely exhilirating in the wild. You can smell it, you can touch it (nature) and you literally feel it with all your five senses.

For want of a better term, perhaps we can call it the "force", even though it sounds quite Hollywoodish.

My senses are so overwhelmed out in the wilderness. Everything comes together, both large and extremely small things.

It is a place for me to gather my thoughts and put this strange existence into perspective.

When I am wandering the wastelands in northern Arizona and find petrefied wood 80 million years old where strange creatures once lived or find painted pottery shards crafted by a human hand 1000 years ago, I seem to find my place here in the universs. A mountain stream bursting with wildflowers and butterflies does the same for me. All things wild are very addicting.

I agree, when I am able to get out in the woods on those rare occasions now, I feel younger, stronger etc. I actually have some hearing loss, youthful loud music kinda stuff. But when I am out in the woods, I can hear a squirrel with indigestion from 30 yards away! Can't explain it, but need some more of it.

Sometimes, when I step out of my car and take that first step onto wild ground I feel like I've come home. I had an experience one time while I was on lunch break at work, and I looked up at the hills to the northeast and was thinking how nice it would be to be up there. Then, for a split second, it was like I was there. I saw the pine tree that from here is only about a centimeter tall, but then it was full-size. I saw where the rodents had made runs under the tall grass, and where the grass stopped and the thick mat of pine needles blanketed the ground instead. The old limbs that had fallen from the tree the previous winter were already half buried in needles and overgrown by tall grass. And even more, I could smell the damp grass and pine needles. All of this occurred in about a second or less time, but it was so clear and real! After that my chest hurt so badly because I wanted to "go back" but I knew that I couldn't. That one moment still haunts me, and I want to climb that mountain some day to see if that spot is exactly like I saw it. It wouldn't surprise me...

My half brother is a very spiritually tuned in kind of guy, he's done the complete Sundance with the Lakota, and a lot of other neat stuff. Anyway, a couple of years ago he came to stay with me for a few days. One day while we were out walking in the woods, he said that he felt a strong energy field in the area. After walking around for a while with his palms held downward, he stopped on a granite ledge and asked me to come over, and hold my hand over a spot on the rock. I did so, and could feel a prickly sensation in the palm of my hand, like a shower of tiny needles coming upward from the rock and lightly sticking me. Make of it what you will. There is immense energy in nature, most of us are unaware of it by virtue of the fact that our whole existance revolves around that which is man made.
