Greetings you all:)

I thought it would be fun to show you how my Opinel 6 au carbon evolved from stock to my most favourite friction Opinel and edc.

When it came out of it's paper bag:

This one was one of the best stock Opi's I received; nice tight action, centered and sharp (including the tip this time)

The tools:

Not included the brick wall of my shed which has stones of various grits. Ideal for quick removal of the wood.

First results:

I was planning on keeping it this way but a few days ago I decided to flatten the handle after all.

Final result (this time I keep it this way before I go overboard and screw it up):

I hope you enjoyed it ;)

Am I seeing things, or is that No6's blade pointier than normal?

Love the handle mods. That knife is a real beauty now.

I love your mod on this Opie! For me the No6 is the perfect pocket Opie when thinned like that, so light you don't even know it's there. Great job:thumbup:

Looks great. Love the shape.

What did you use for stain?

Top coat?

It's a sort of paint/oil I got from my Mom. She used it for aging leather, paper, wood for her own hobbies.
It's called "patina" and the jar is more than 10 years old.
She gave it to me about a half year ago after I told her I had a difficult time really aging my Opinel handles.
It's best to appy a thin coat, let it sit for a while and then rubbing it in with your fingers.
It's a messy job, but I like the results.

.

patina is how my grandma called shoe cream :)

i like "flat look" and spear point blade

Very nicely done! How long did it take to reprofile the blade?

Because the blade is relatively thin and the steel is not that hard it only took me about 10 minutes with just that file in the picture. My Opinel 8 took about 20 minutes because of the thicker blade.

Wow that really did turn out great! I have to try this with one of my Opi's for sure. Thanks for sharing and again you did a great job.
