This is not about knives....if the moderators want to lock this or put it somewhere else then so be it.....but I put this here because MORE PEOPLE use this forum than any other......In a few weeks we are going to decide the fate of our nation. I dont mean for the next 8 years....I believe it is going to be forever. The things that have been set in motion during the last 8 years cannot continue without our whole system of government falling apart at the seams.....and it is my perception that they want that exact thing to happen.....so.... PLEASE VOTE.......sincerely......Its like the gun thing.....its not about guns....its about freedom.

Here's a slight reiteration of what I posted in another thread.

These threads which eventually lead to personal politics are like passing by a bad accident. I'm always compelled to stop, look, and chat.

The thing that I HATE about these political threads is that it ultimately deteriorates into I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG attitudes (I'm guilty too) rather than just allowing people to express their opinions freely without ridicule. If you don't agree, just say so in a civil manner and offer an alternate opinion and reason.

Whether it be carrying big knives, or gun laws, or whether questioning Benchmade's quality control, there is no RIGHT or WRONG answer. It's just personal beliefs.

That said, here's my personal opinion: There is nothing ethically or morally wrong with carrying big knives, or guns as long as your intentions are good. On the other hand, it is a damn shame that there are a few bad eggs in society (criminals, irresponsible individuals) who spoil it for the bunch. They give an excuse for the law-makers and politicians to BAN this and that.

We should be blaming the "bad eggs of society" rather than Rosie O'Donell (if you lean to the right), or the NRA or Springfield Armory (if you lean to the left).

No one wants their freedom restricted with laws, and legislation. Unfortunately, society is like a remedial 3rd grade classroom: everyone has to have a detention because teacher saw chalk flying across the room but didn't see it was Billy who threw it!

OLD KNIFE GUY, JW, and a lot of others here may be responsible knife/gun owners, but not everyone is in society. There are the idiots who spoil it for those who would like to have that chrome .357 Python, or REKAT Sifu. So it goes...

Tom, I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, with freedom comes responsibility, and noone seems to want that anymore. I'm afraid that the last eight years were just the beginning. No decent, moral person, having the slightest hint of common sense, or love of liberty could have voted a immoral, self-serving, dishonest socialist into office, yet our countrymen did it-twice. God, country, and family used to be values. Now they are valueless. Based on our countrymen and their elected representatives, our country's future is indeed a depressing prospect.
VOTE, and pray that the people have had enough of our country being the laughing-stock of the world, and being led by individuals who contradict the very principles on which our nation was founded.

btw, Tom, I do think it's about knives, and innumerable other personal freedoms that we take for granted, but could easily lose.

Guys, I agree.Ponder this:
If you or I were caught cheating in front of the whole country would our wives leave us?Yup, but his wouldn't give up the power.
If you or I committed perjury would we be in jail?Yup.
If you or I didn't produce documents demanded by the gov't and suddenly they found them, would we be punished? Yup.
If you or I dropped our pants in a room with a strange woman and demanded oral sex, would we be arrested? Yup.
If you or I received large donations from China and suddenly, miraculously China had nuclear capabilities, would we be questioned and questioned and probably punished? Yup.
It just goes on and on. Draft dodger on charge of the military, oral sex is not adultery, she didn't make anti-semitic remark to campaign staffer, etc etc.
Hey, this couple is good-with what they got away with they are a pair of the best con-artists around.
Please folks, vote with your heads.

I had a long winded response, but all I will say is
VOTE FREEDOM FIRST!!!

BTW Emerson Commanders and SIG Sauer 229s rock! (obligatory knife/gun content)

Well said Tom!
We truely are in danger of losing not only our rights but the entire concept of personal freedom is at stake.

PLEASE VOTE!

Tom, well said.

I am not sure what bothers me more; that the left is willing to restrict our freedom, or that they are willing to hire two bureacrats to follow each one of us around to ensure we comply with the rules. Anyone who tries to childproof the world is an idiot - we are put here to enjoy ourselves -not to "live" in a sterile pickel jar awaiting death.

Wasn't it Ben Franklin who said "Those who are willing to give up essential liberties for temporary safety deserve neither"? He was and is still right. I am very excited about this election. It is our opportunity to turn things around. I sincerely believe that if Al Gore wins the nation will be forever changed, for the worse. It is imperative that we vote and turn this thing around. Clinton and Gore have already done irrepairable damage to our freedom. We don't need anymore.

What really scares me is that so many people are willing to vote for Gore. What are they thinking?

I feel sorry for all of my American blade brothers. You are starting down the same road that has restricted my rights and freedoms up here in Canada.
After YEARS of oppresive liberal rule and domination anouther Canadian election also is in the near future. I hope that people have seen through the lies, mismanagement, and in your face attitude of the liberal government.

Because of ONE person breaking the law and shooting people, ALL firearms owners in Canada were punished and are faced with eminant registration of self and all owned firearms. Also many firearms have already been outlawed by a simple act of parliment. Many of these privatlly owned firearms have already been confiscated after registration as collectors items without compensation to the legal owner, YES THE GOVERNMENT STOLED THEM BY CONFISCATION.

I hope your future road has a U-turn in it. For your future good. Unless the sheeple in Canada open there eyes our road is alrady paved straight to hell by restriction, registration and confiscation.

Good luck you will need it, I fear ours has run out alrady.

This is one subject that always gets me thinking how some of these idiots that take our freedom away get into office in the first place. Well think about it if you were a criminal would you not be inclined to vote a cantidate into office who would take guns away from honest citizens. If I was inclined to commit crimes, I would put an individual in office that would give me a small sentence for robbing a home that he made defenseless. Face it as a criminal your not going to give up your gun, but you sure would be happy to know that the house your robbing is unarmed.
We need to realize that by having our freedoms to carry knives, guns , etc to defend ourselves. We still have to fight in this time of peace by putting an honest individual in office.
Who know's maybe I'm paranoid and I give criminals to much credit. But I don't care to be a victim, so why take chances. Vote for what you feel is true and don't forget to do it packin.

well said by all above......its not about guns, or knives, or rosie the butthead, its about selling our country to the highest bidder regarless of the circumstances.....and may the citizen be damned.....Like I said at first, without any advertisement for who......VOTE!

This is going to be a particularly important election. It is important that everyone who can vote does vote.

Volume One (yes, Volume One) of the curiously titled "Oregon Voter's Pamphlet" arrived the other day. It had 374 pages. Volume Two should arrive any day now. They like to allow a few days for the postal carriers to recover. The point being that there's a lot important offices and issues in this election here in Oregon and probably in most other states too. So, don't miss this one. It really is important.

Eight years ago we had one of the lowest voter turn outs in history. This apathy is what put our country, and our constitutional rights, in such dire straights.
PLEASE, Please, besides voting yourself, make sure your family, friends and anyone you meet...VOTE! (preferably for Busch)

Hi Guy's so how should I vote for Bush or Gore! I have to asy Bush from what I've seen wich is not much! I love Freedom what dose the NRA say to vote for!

I'm voting entirely on The Tie Issue.

Debate one: your uniformed presidential candidates. Bush in a dark suit, white shirt, red tie. Gore in a dark suit, white shirt, red tie.

Debate two: Bush sticks to his guns and to his red tie. But, with his self-confidence shaken by Bush's red tie from the previous debate, Gore reinvents himself in a blue tie.

Debate three: Bush is unwavering in that red tie. And Gore, probably in response to public opinion poles showing that people prefer presidents in red ties, changes his position on the tie issue again.

If he can't make up his mind on what color of tie to wear, then how is he ever going to handle the really tough issues of the presidency? If Gore caves in to Bush's red ties, then how is going to stand up to dictators and terrorists?

Do we want our nation pushed around by well-dressed despots and rouge nations with good color coordination? Or do we want an American that will stand confident and strong?

A vote for Bush is a vote for unwavering, strong, American, red ties. A vote for Gore is a vote for indecisiveness and the fickle winds of fashion.

And that, my friends, in the presidential election reduced to its most basic issues.

Guys, this is the problem. All this bureaucracy is a Democratic Party jobs program. When Rudy Giuliani became mayor of New York City, the one thing he did that infuriated the unions the most was to cut the entitlement programs. Once less people were collecting free money, less people were needed to hand it out. The bureaucracy shrank, and the bureaucrats had to go out and find real jobs to make a living.

Why did Bill Clinton get elected twice? Because too many people knew he would cave in cheerfully to anything they asked him to shell out for: he bought their votes with their own money – and ours. If it weren’t for the Republican Congress, we would be in a mess. As hard as it’s been countering Bubba, at least the Congress has been trying.

Get out the vote!

Today's voters in each state (and the District of Columbia) don't actually vote for President but choose a slate of electors who then pick the President. knife

Hence, the Electoral College.

For those who have forgotten their high school civics, the Electoral College was a compromise between knife those Founding Fathers who wanted direct election of the President and those who wanted Congress to pick the President.

This year the 538 electors--the same number as there are representatives from the 50 states (plus three for D.C.) in the House and Senate--will gather knife in state capitals on Dec 18 to cast their ballots. On Jan 6, the ballots will be counted, and the next President will be chosen.

A TIE? What happens if Bush and Gore each get 269 electoral votes (there are 538 electoral votes). The knife race would go to Congress--and its next House would cast its votes for President. But instead of 435 members voting individually, each state delegation would have one vote.

Right now, that would tend to favor Bush, since Republicans outnumber Democrats in 27 state delegations and they will probably keep this slim advantage. But would House knife members feel obliged to follow the wishes of their states, their districts or their parties? All of which could be in conflict? Or would they support whoever won the popular vote? Meanwhile, the Senate would pick the Veep. Senators vote individually.

Don't concentrate solely on "your popular vote!" You need to beat "your" Congressional bush knife to get them to make the "best" ballot cast!
