I have been a RAT knife user from way back in the day when Mike and Jeff were getting their knives made by Ontario. I remember that I had to wait for a couple of my RAT knives to be produced before I could get one. Thats how long ago its been since I bought my RAT knives. I have the RAT 3, 7, 5, TAK, and the folder.
Then Mike and Jeff moved on and started having their knives made by Rowen. I have always thought the RC/ESEE-3 looks very simaler to the RAT-3 with just a couple small changes (as far as I know).
So, I have been telling myself that there was no need to get an RC/ESEE-3 because they are so similar.
Wanting one of the RC/ESEE knives I bought (from Two Wolves Outdoor) an Izula over a year ago because its not like any knife I have from Mike and Jeff.
The Izula is one of my EDC knives and is used almost daily for different types of chores. I really like the knife but Mike and Jeff didnt have one like it when their knives were made by Ontario so I had nothing from them to compare it to.
Well, after many hours of reading stuff about the RC/ESEE-3, looking at You-Tube, and talking with Lisa over at Two Wolves Outdoor I decided to get an RC/ESEE-3 (from my wife for my birthday) to replace my RAT-3 that lives on the belt of my pack. I kept telling myself that I wanted the knife because of the sheath. Okay, Ill use any excuse to get another knife. LOL
My RC-3 arrived about a week ago and boy was I wrong about it being similar to the RAT-3. IMHO
WOW! Its a very nice/comfortable knife. The fit and finish of my RC-3 is awesome. My RC-3 feels so much nicer in my hand and it asks to be used. I typically prefer knives with larger handles but my RC-3 is very comfortable to use.Dont get me wrong, I have used my RAT-3 a lot but there is just something about my RC-3 that is very welcoming to me. I cant really explain why it feels so different to me.
Now I have a question for those that have a RC/ESEE-3, RAT-3, RC/ESEE-6, and RAT-7 and feel the same as I do about the RAT-3 and RC/ESEE-3.
Does the RAT-7 and RC/ESEE-6 feel as different as the two 3s do?
Any feedback regarding the RC/ESEE-6 and RAT-7 would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to Mike and Jeff for making another great knife.
