I thought I would see how my Cold Steel Pocket Bushman would stack up against my BK14 Eskabar. The two knives are about the same price, with the CS being the cheaper of the two. I payed about $25 for the CS and $35 for the BK14, so they are within $10 of each other. I know there are many other hard use folders, but most of them are very expensive, and do not compare with the 14's excellent price. I did many simple tests to see how the two would compare against each other, and the results were kinda surprising. So let the games begin!
Here is a few shots of the two together, (sorry for the less than great pics, I was using my phone)
First I did a chopping test, not really these blade's strength, but I though I would give it a shot. I gave them each about 50 good swings, and I wasn't too surprised, but I didn't think the results would be that big of a difference.
The CS did significantly better then the 14, but it is a tad bit larger, and has more weight.
Next I did a batoning test,
The BK14 did a little better, but since it is a tad bit thicker I expected this.
And last but not least I did a feather stick test,
The CS Pocket Bushman
The BK14
The 14 did a little better for this one too, even though they were both about the same sharpness.
All in all, they both did very well, but the BK14 pulls out top. For the tasks that a knife this size will be doing, the 14 did it better, and with less effort. You can't go wrong with either of them, and for the prices they are sold at, buy both!
Just a few pics with the two next to a Kershaw Blur s30v for comparison,
