Yep I know . More people have used that title and sung that song than you could swing a khukuri at . Now its my turn . It justs fits so well .

Does anyone remember an old blade movie which had a group of soldiers/warriors on the proverbial quest? They come upon some kind of Temple with a Beautiful Queen/priestess .

Old Queeny is pretty blood-thirsty . She requires complete obedience from her underlings . This includes the possibility of a ride on the roller coaster of death . Roller coaster ? Not really . More like a water slide where the lubricating fluid is your blood .

If I remember correctly said sucker kneels in front of this slide . (read vertical razor blade)
He is sent on his way to nirvana or wherever underlings heaven is.You don,t get to see too much of the ride . (just as well) The recipient of the lady's largesse was either sliced in two or at least had immediate need of a steel plated cup . ( No I am not talking about dinnerware .)

The prissy Priestess gives one of the visiting soldiers the pride of participating in a local cultural belief. Take a ride on the slide of death . Prove your loyalty to your leader . Prove your faith in your God ? Whatever , the leader convinces one of the soldiers to lower his flag to half mast . (Proabably lowered body parts as well.)

Does anyone remember seeing this movie ?

Kevin, that was a 1963 film starring Richard Widmark, titled The Longships. IIRC the roller coaster you refer to was called "The Mare of Steel". "Who will prove their courage and loyalty to the Sultan by riding the mare of steel?" Not me bubba, not me. ;)

Looks pretty cool. Coming soon to a Disney themepark. Seriously though, I've seen some kids skateboarding doing some pretty similar stuff. Railsliding down long railings with nothing but concrete stairs for padding. Never liked pain that much myself.

Thanks Sarge . That is exactly it . I do not know why I wouldn,t remember Richard Widmark . Also it has a singular and interesting title . I do know I was very young when I saw it .

Just seeing that slicer and dicer made things tighten up a bit .

That beast gives circumcision a whole new meaning .

What I couldn't figure out in that movie, was just how they planned on loading and carrying that giant bell, made out of solid gold, on a single longship. Even as a kid watching that movie, I looked at those seaworthy but fairly shallow draft vessels, and figured they'd swamp for sure under all that weight. Strikes me that a barge could have been improvised by lashing two ships together and constructing a platform to load the bell onto. Even so, it would make for a long row, because a morphodite rig like that would be plumb lousy under sail.

my favourite bit was when the bell fell down the cliff & you saw it floating in the sea before they switched away. musta been a lot of air bubbles in that gold.

I'd forgotten that bit, you're right, it was pretty dadburn hokey to see something that should obviously weigh many tons, just a bobbing like a fishing cork.

I liked the 1957 Kirk Douglas movie "The Vikings" better. Especially got a kick out of one scene where Douglas scaled a drawbridge by scrambling up a "ladder" of axes that had been deliberately thrown to stick in the wooden drawbridge in a pattern suitable for that purpose. To access this makeshift arrangement, he had to take a running leap across the moat, and just pray to Odin that whatever axe handle he grabbed was stuck good and firm. Outrageously gutsy maneuver, made for great cinema.

i liked the vikings (they showed it just last week over here in fact) i found it a bit strange that tony curtis played a viking with a jewish accent, and when iala had his hand cut off they cut off the LEFT one (so he could still use a sword for the rest of the movie i guess) was kinda funny that he healed real fast & it appeared to be a bit long considereing the hand was supposed to be missing under that furry cap he had on it. least the sheilds and weapons made some attempt to look real rather than have horns on helmets, etc. the english of course at that time would have been dressed and armed much the same, so the uniform blue english with their short late medievil metal shields were out of place.

I was actually going to mention .the Vikings " That is another one from a very long time ago . The drawbridge scene was electric . I just watched The "sea Wolf" with Charles Bronson and Christoper Reeve. That was a duel of brawn and wits I enjoyed . I will be getting the "Sea Hawk" next week from a friend . "Drink up me hearties. Yoho"

I did like "the longships" if for no other reason than The sacrifice scene . It was definitely a B movie .
