The first, last, best HI kothimoda and do I play favorites. Pix.

This is the first HI kothimoda I have ever received which was not on the wait list. It is the last HI kothimoda I have received. And, it is the best to date.

The khukuri is a 17 inch, 23 ounce, HI kothimoda style flawlessly executed by Bura. Bone handle which Bura has cured himself. The blade is typical Bura quality but I can see he has put some extra effort into this khukuri just to make sure. Mountings are .999 silver. They don't get much better than this.

Karda and chakma excellent.

The scabbard is an outstanding piece of work by our sunar whose name I have forgotten even though I met him and visited his shop my last journey to Nepal. He suffered tragedy of losing a young daughter about a year ago and his work showed his sadness for a time but he seems to have recovered and this is the best work he has ever produced. The scabbard weighs about 14 or 15 ounces, most of this weight is silver. He has used the standard top quality natural grain buffalo calf leather and his silver work on this one is tops.

Take a look at the picture of the daphne, the bird of Nepal. There is a mirror image of this on the back of the scabbard and there is just enough difference in the two to tell you this work was very carefully and excellently done by hand. My camera would not record the fine detail of this work but it is a winner.

Before I put this knife on our shopping site I wanted to give all my forumite nephews a chance at it first and I'll ship it for $395 rather than the standard price of $450. Yes, I do play favorites and if there is a person among us who doesn't I'd like him to take a step forward and tell me how he manages to do this.

Call or email if interested.

Great piece, I wonder if anyone is kicking themselves over the spending spree last week.

Dear Bill,
I have never seen anything like this before. Love at first sight, and no money in the bank. Beautiful.

Jeff.

I'll let you guys know what it looks like in my personal hands on inspection tomorrow, and what I decide to do about it. Now that ought to get a few of you hyperventilating.

Our favorite lurker takes weekends off but he'll probably be looking at this early tomorrow AM. Stay tuned. And there is always Rusty to contend with. He's due in the Cantina tomorrow.

Blade is not engraved -- just the magic stone mirror finish.

It's a beautiful rig and the blade will do some serious work just in case.

Nice piece from what I can see. I do have three kothimodas already (2 khukuris and one katana) so will regretfully pass on this. I would agree with Uncle Bill that the scabbard has to be the best of the ones I've seen. As to the khukuri, I think that one I have is better, but then I am biased as I own it.

Now I am wondering why Jim hasn't jumped on this one as I do not think he has one of these yet...Oh, Jimmy!!!
