I'm new to the world of knife making. my name is Evan Miner. The knife Im displaying here was created as a gift for my little Brother, who is an army Ranger. any ways the knife is made from a peice of 5160 stock I got from Mike Quesenberry, after my dad told me he was the guy to go see. well needless to say he gave me the peice of steel cause I read a bad forum some where on the internet that 416 stainless was good for a blade. I was quickly set straight on on what is a good peice of steel. I learned more in the first few hours meeting up with mike then I did in a months worth of reading random text on the internet. after all was said and done I got the steel home and began to shape out my knife with a hack saw and some files I had bought, and a drimle with some 120grid sanding wheel. the handle is od green and black g10. once everything came together I went back to mikes for a lesson in heat treating, which I was excited to get more the just the lesson in heat treating but a lesson in a over whelming size about knife making in general. so here its let me know what you all think. thank you and a huge thanks to mike for all the knowledge

Looks nice. That notch you cut might be a bit high I'd think, weaken the blade a bit. The handle looks very comfortable, thats the part I always figure I'd screw up if I tried to make one.

the handle I screwed up on with the first set of scales I purchesed, leason learned dont try and thin g10 with an angle grinder with a diamond blade they dont cut so straight.

G10 I find can be shaped quite easily if you just cut out the basic shape and use some 100 grit sandpapwr and do the rest or the conjuring by hand. I'm sure your brother will really enjoy the new knife

thats pretty close to whati did on round 2, i still used the agle grinder to knock out the basic out line but this time i put the angle grinder in a vise and slowly worked out my out line then used a drimle with 120 sand wheels to shape it the rest of the way. so far ryan says he likes what he sees in the pics
