I picked up this green linen FFBM from Skunker last summer...
Stripped her down and put her right to work.
I didn't spend a lot of time polishing her up,
heck, I barely even prep'd the edge before beating her.
Just a couple of passes on a ceramic to knock off the roughs (feathers
) of the edge grind.
She got to see a lot of use this winter...
She spilt down two cords of fire wood for my wood stove in the basement.
And I had a fire almost every night, all hard woods too.
I use a 32 oz rubber mallet for my baton (the section of 2x2 I started out with, only lasted about two fires)
There are a few things that amazed me as we went thru the winter...
The fact that I barely cleaned up the edge, and she still hair poppin' sharp!
Another is that she literally cut right thru every knot I batoned her thru.
Oak, Maple... you name it, she handled it like a champ!
They were all clean cuts versus splits... now thats cool!
And lastly... thru the course of the winter and splitting all that wood,
she ended up biting the concrete floor about a dozen time or so.
The first time I heard that ding,
especially when biting the concrete with the force of a 32 oz mallet behind her...
I thought it was gonna be bad.
I was amazed that the damage was barely noticable.
Towards the end when it would happen, my thought was usually "crap... another chip in the floor". LOL
So... I now have her bite marks in my basement floor.
I am really impressed with her... definitely pulled her weight this winter.
Now its time to clean her up a bit and get her ready for a summer of fun!
OK... enough rambling... here's some pics for you to enjoy.
I really like how the green linen is aging with use... nothin' but oils from the hand and leather gloves.
She does like to bite deep...
Lil' penetrator tip shot...
Look at all those beauty marks on her blade... SWEET!
Did I mention that I really like green linen???
Standing proud... basking in the sun!
The extent of the damage from biting the concrete floor about a dozen times...
Barely any at all... and thats biting with the force of a 32 oz mallet!
She doesn't even mind getting all dirty.
Thanks for looking...
Oh... if you don't have a Mistress... everybody NEEDS one don't ya know!
