I had this idea for a thread, and hopefully it will be well received:

There are some true artists and craftsmen who frequent this forum, and we have all had the pleasure of seeing their exquisite work, showcased with beautifully composed photographs. There are also guys like me, who are basically hacks but want some place to show off their enthusiastic, if clumsy, creations. This thread is intended to be for those of us in the latter category. Just like when your parents proudly put your kindergarten Rembrandts up on the refrigerator, grab a magnet and hang your traditional knife related artwork up to get the love and appreciation it deserves! Not knife related? - put a knife in the picture...

Here for starters is a rustic walnut tray I made (“rustic” = “poorly designed and crudely executed”), along with some of my other recent kitchen items. Tools (mis)used in the creation of these: hatchet, folding saw, flat chisel, block plane, spoon-carving hook knife, Opinel, Steel Warrior copperhead.

I dont know if this counts or not, my bosses sister had a leak in their bathroom, which butts up to another bathroom. Well they tore out the sheetrock due to it having gotten wet and moldy. I replaced the old shower valve, and they wanted an access panel so in the future if anything happens again no full on destruction. Well they had an idea of the panel being dual purpose and wanted to know if I could build and inset cabinet.

Note shutoff valves, if anything should happen to the shower valve and it needs replacing you can do so without shutting off water to everything else. Because sometimes leaks happen when you cant just run out and buy the needed parts;)

Should have taken more "in process" pics:rolleyes: anyway, 1"x4" sides,3/16" hardboard backing, 1/2"birch plywood doors, the perimeter trim is vynil, and the moulding on the doors is synthetic as well as its next to a shower. 1/2"x3" shelves,Hidden hinges,

The shelf lying on the bottom was from the leftover peice, its kinda just an extra. Shelves sit on clear plastic pegs and are adjustable, there are extra holes between each shelf in this pic.

Held in with 4 screws, one in each corner, remove them and the whole thing slides out. Not very deep but still a useful way to utilize the space and have a panel thats multi function. All in all a fun project from my normal work.
Edit to add the knife pic, lol I forgot

Great idea and nice work

It's not done yet, but I've been building a saddle.
Here are some of the sharp things I've been using to cut stuff.
I think that it is great that you are revitalizing your Talent of working with leather and making saddles again my friend .

Great space preservation David  NOW - consider using exploding screws ;) (activated by water) so that in case of a shower emergency no tools would be required to remove the cabinet. Of course it would be good timing if no one was sitting on the throne during discharge (of the cabinet screws o_O - though such an event could scare the crap out of someone, so there is always an upside) :D

Great idea for a thread J Just Tom.

My pride and joy! This took me several months to complete because my tools are limited and not always appropriate for the task. I used a scroll saw, router, orbital sander, sanding block, drill, dremel, rasp, fret saw, fret hammer, level, clamps, and lots of sandpaper. And a handful of knives (shown) for marking and scoring templates, cutting sandpaper and cloths, and scraping.

The body is african mahogany, the neck is bubinga, and the fingerboard is bocote.

excellent preserving of space David:thumbsup: In order to remove the cabinet in the event of a shower emergency without using tools, consider employing bursting screws (triggered by water). Of course, it would be ideal timing if no one was on the throne when the cabinet screws were discharged (albeit such an event would freak someone out, so there is always a plus): confused: :D
