The one thing about knife shopping I realy can't get around is I cannot decide what to buy.

I am looking for a new EDC something around $100, not too small, decent lock but doesent have to be fantastic, and low maintainance, nothing flashey just a good EDC. I need somthing to last me a while.

OK I'll narrow this down a little more no locks that I can't open/close with one hand, no tantos, no blades without a point (sheeps foot) no all SS handles, no brightly colored handels, no sheath carry, try to stay away from all black but this is not set in stone.

You'll get a million responses for this. Most of them will be good suggestions.

My personal recommendation: Benchmade gravitator. Low maintenance, cuts anything.

I hope you're not saying that you can't find a knife with those specs? There are hundreds perhaps thousands of knives that meet your requirements.

Good place to start searching, the Knife Reviews forum. Then you can narrow your choices by handle materials, blade steel, type of lock, size, etc.

Since you're so undecided, perhaps you should start with two $50 knives?

Best Luck,
Bob

Go to company websites for Spyderco, Benchmade, CRKT, and Cold Steel. Look through knives with no less than AUS-8 or even 440A steel, with blades about 3.5" long.

After you've browsed these, you'll have a much better picture in your mind of which one exactly fits your liking.

tgw914,

What blade-length do you prefer?
What's the maximum weight of a knife you would carry?
Any preferences in blade-steel?

The paramilitary IS awesome, but a bit over your price and I'm betting some people (not me) will dislike it due to its hugeness, though conversely, when the knife is opened, this is what makes it great. If you can afford it though and don't mind carrying around the bigger knife, I've yet to find a better folder than the paramilitary for any price, period.

Look into the Benchmade minigriptilian/griptilian, which are both well under your price range and amazingly tough little knives, look into the CRKT M16, look into the S30V Spyderco Native....those would all be superb choices and there's something in there for everyone.

The Spyderco Native is a great knife. I think it fills all of your requirements AND costs about $60 to $70. I love mine. It has been my EDC for several months now.

There's nothing that one person can say to make you just go out and buy the knife they are using (I think) but, for your budget BM's and Spyderco's are always great choices. Good reviews in the forums and something that your think would really like is always the best way to go.

Did you do your Homework??

Take a look at questions I have asked the past 3 weeks. All newbie question that you might ask.

most of time is easy, you like the look, you like the price, people have good reaction then buy it.

Spyderco is exception. I used to hate the look, love the price & material. I gave a shot, still hate it the when i held in hand. Turn it open for 3 min, i started to love it! Now it looks beautiful to me. Most important, hard to part with it.

My advice:

Just don't spend too much time search for knife!!! The more knife pictures you look at, they will all end up sitting in your room.

Too many options out there with your specifications and your budget. Look at the Benchmade Griptilian. Nice knife. But there are many others out there, too.

If you want to drop the full $100 or close to it, the Mini Grips offered by Cabela's (D2 steel) and the Ritter Mini (SV 30 steel) offered by Aeromedix would fill your bill nicely.

Or, if you only want to drop $25, one of the KaBar Dozier Folding Hunters (AUS 8 steel, I think) are available all over Web for about $20 plus shipping. Unbelievable value for the money.

Hey man at least you can actually shop for knives. there aint no knife shops here in Kuala Lumpur. The only way i can get my fix is looking at the basics (vic, Leatherman, Gerber, buck) at hardware stores and camping shops man...
gotta get out of here soon
