Has anyone used this set by Base Camp X? Most of their stuff if overpriced in the extreme and I'm assuming their throwing knives are no exception but I'm curious to see if anyone has bit the bullet and bought a set and what their experience was? Considering their individual knives cost more than a Branton they'd have to be some toptoptop quality knives to justify the price.

That's $138 each for "forged high carbon steel".

I like the knife roll, that' cool.

I like the logo, nice and clean.

The knives themselves remind me of the ones sold on FaceBook by folks who make them out of used lawnmower blades...

The description is lacking as well.... They say "Two frontier inspired knives..." which translates to: three generic bowie style knives who's design was pretty much stolen from Branton/McEnvoy.

Also, either their weight is WAY off or they meant to type OZ instead of G for the measurement... at 17G knife = .5 oz... so....

With statements like: "Pro X Thrower that will be sure to assist you in becoming an expert hurler in no time… " and the rest of the presentation of the product, I'm completely turned-off... This product and the site as a whole strikes me as a marketing gimmick and not a real thing.

And what IS that material that they've supposedly thrown one of their knives completely through? A 2x4? Are we seriously expected to believe that? I mean it looks beat up, so if they chewed it up for a while, THEN threw it through.... But that's not the visual presentation.

Ok, I'll stop now...

Halzucati, that's pretty much a perfect reflection of my sentiments. The description alone is so generic it gives no actual information about the knives. The price point is so ludicrous that I doubt anyone who knows anything will ever buy a set and review it so we'll never know if they have a quality product or, more likely, are simply charging a premuim for window dressing. The roll is nice and the entire package together looks great but that's about it; I'm sure. It does make me wish that more reputable custom makers offered sheaths/rolls for storage or partenered with quality kydex/leather/canvas workers.

I realize this is a delayed response, but I wanted to give some further information on these. For the record, I throw knives. My girlfriend wanted to get me a throwing set for Xmas, and she somehow came across these BCX knives. She purchased 2 of them, so not this set, but the individual Frontier Fury knives @ $105/ea (the smaller ones of this set). Those of you who throw know that you generally need 3 knives, and preferably 3 knives of equal size/weight to throw in competition/games. Having 2 new knives was nice, but I need 3 for day-to-day throwing, so I went out the next day and ordered a single Frontier Fury (and was blown away at how expensive they were). After I ordered my knife, I became suspicious of BCX, as their descriptions and weights do not sound like they are written by someone who throws or makes blades. Long story short, after some research, it seems like these blades are just rebranded Fort Turner knives. The BCX "Frontier Fury" from BCX appears to be a FT "Frontiersman Pro Thrower" ($59.95). The BCX "Pro X Thrower" appears to be a FT "Ultimate Pro Thrower" ($79.95). With BCX products, they generally do some kind of custom work to snazz up the product and then put a huge markup on them. With these, they apparently do nothing aside from stamp BCX in the steel. I do not know who makes the knife roll - it could be an actual BCX product.

Now, as for the review, I do really like these knives. Throwing from the blade is great, as the blade profile allows nice 'memory' for your fingers (I'm a pinch thrower, not a hammer grip thrower). The leather is smooth and wears well. I lubed up the blade and leather with some Fluid Film to keep them from rusting. The blades come sharp (maybe BCX does that?) , so I had to grind them down to make them usable. I have used many knives from Cold Steel, Boker, Condor, Hibben, etc and these are, by far, my favourite. Leather is nice when you're throwing in the cold, as you're not holding cold steel all the time, but make sure you have multiple targets as these handles will get thrashed quickly if another knife hits them. These have a nice weight and feel more substantial than a lot of the common throwing knives. I don't feel like they are going to break any time soon. These things love to embed themselves in the wood, so it's a pain to retrieve them, but that's my only real complaint. Grab a set from Fort Turner if you want to save some $$$.

I forgot to mention the length didn't make sense on BCX either. Having a short knife for a serious thrower seemed strange. BCX says 11.5", but the real length is 12.875" as listed on Fort Turner.

Wow, I forgot all about this post. Thanks for the update HCCPete. While it's nice, I guess, to know we were right in our assumptions it's disheartening to know that BCX is doubling the price and can't even be bothered to provide an accurate description of "their' product. Did you tell your girlfriend that she could have saved about $100 or have you kept that info to yourself?

I let the cost slip the other day when someone saw my knives and wanted to buy a set. She over heard me telling them the real cost and the real source. She was disappointed that she had spent so much on a 'glamour' type of product, but I explained that the knives are great and that I was happy with them :)
