The Future of Lighting

Just read this article about a new break though in lighting that people are working on. Wont be coming out for a while (i assume) but it sounds like it will be a cheap, durable, safe, brighter, light that also is easier on the eye than current LED (ie. light better suited for reading, ect).

What a stupid headline for that story !! There is lots of interesting research going on in lighting.I think the first thing that will take over home lighting is organic LEDs.These are already in some of the hand held ipod type of things and recently introduced TVs. Lighting however is not just brightness or power consumption but spectrum. Spectrum is often not mentioned .When I tried the GE replacement flourescent bulbs I found it distorted colors and irritated my eyes [and I'm not the only one !] This is because it has a strong spike in the green portion of the spectrum.White LEDs are made by treating blue LEDs with phosphors which give a cool blue/white .That has now improved so white and warm white have been introduced.
Advances will be made by scientists not politicians !!!
