The future of Stud Lock?

There is a thread on General on folding knife locks. The question was to rank lock up types in order of strength. After owning a Bump and a Mini Mojo I would, and did, rank the Kershaw Stud Lock as quite possibly the lock I would recommend and trust the most (I guess that nitrogen cylinder one is pretty good too but that's a different story). I would imagine that for it to fail the knife basically has to explode with both liners/frame scales coming off at the same time, otherwise anything that could make it possibly fail would destroy the hand of the one holding it before failing.

Will this lock be used on future models? I am surprised that it has not made its way into the ZT line yet, are there any plans to include it or will this not fit the image of that line?

Stud lock is fantastic but since (I think) Ken Onion owns the patent, and he's not with Kershaw anymore, they probably won't be licensing it for any more knives.

Probably be best we keep the speculations to a minimum.

Well you're no fun :p :D

I'm going to speculate anyway.

I figure that the consumer response isn't positive enough to continue to use the lock. I would guess that it's more expensive of a system to implement and though it is a good locking system it's different enough to scare off the majority of the knife buying population. People don't tend to like thing that are too far from the norm. Unless they're me.;)

Comes down to mostly difficulty in manufacturing the SL. Sales have been average.

If the design is allowed to be altered would it be possible to make it simpler (though I don't quite see how since it it already simple and brilliant)?

What did I miss? Ken Onion isn't with Kershaw anymore?

Whatever the reason, it's a real bummer the lock isn't use more. Among many other things, the Stud lock is one reason I love my Offset.
Now we just need one in S110V.
