Let's all bow our heads in reverence for a moment...

What a wonderful theme and execution of a surprising folder design. This is the art of engraving in it's finest moment.

Julie is a member here. My praise is offerred!

(There are so many elements that needed capturing, I had to figure out a whole new display format to show it off. It works.)

Actually, the comment that first came to mind was, "holy cr@p!" but, perhaps more appropriately:

WOW!!!

Stunning, simply stunning. What is that in the handle, ironwood? Whatever it is, it's gorgeous

I would put good money on the inlays being antique tortoise shell. Truly beautiful stuff if you have ever seen it in person. Quite pricey I am told.

nice triptych, Coop....;)

Incredible engraving. Email sent to Julie.

Thanks for posting the pic.

thats cool................is it an auto or manual???

Thanks Tom and guys. It's a nail-nick manual opener.

Julie sent me a note, too. She's very happy with the image. Honestly, with this caliber of work, it would be hard to make it look anything less than superb.

Triptych?? I'm off to find my dictionary...

Triptych site

Triptych: A painting or carving that has three side-by-side parts, panels, or canvases. Typically, a triptych has three hinged panels, the two outer panels designed so that they can be folded in towards the central one.

This was a common form for an altarpiece during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The outer parts of such triptychs were typically hinged to the central one so that they could be closed over it, and in this case reverse sides were often painted.

A triptych can also be, more loosely, something composed or presented in three parts or sections.

Thanks, Dan! How appropriate for this piece, and I simply stumbled into it. There must have been some divine intervention...

you were led to it, Coop....

I seriously thought I was "catching your lil' word-play trick".....

...a "good and evil" knife portrayed in a triptych....

just like our friend Bosch (and countless others from the middle ages to modern times).

Bosch

Garden of Earthly Delights, etc.

(Paradise on the left, Earth in the middle, Hell on the right)

Here's a detail to prove that indeed, this does have knife content..!

Stunning is a far too weak a statement for that piece....in fact, I'm sorta at a lose for words...

I do have a question: it appears that the tort shell panels slide? Is this just to reveal the underlying engraving? Or is it a "hollow" space for something?
And I'm with Tom... I'd ask if that was an auto, but your answer nixed that... but with all that is going on, it does look like it could even be a double action opener... But even as a simple nail-nick opener, that is just one knife beyond mere words...

Absolutely somewhere out there beyond my grasp of the English language...

Dan, I simply used 'Good and Evil' in place of 'Heaven and Hell' by choice. Same but different. I wish Julie would chime in and offer some details.

I remember that masterpiece painting and it is SPOOKY!!!

Joe, those panels slide in and out in a tight channel for no other reason than to display the work underneath. Maybe you could stash something else in there, but I'm certain that wasn't the intent. I think it has enough appeal to not need any fancy opening mechanisms, too.

I dunno. Looks like about a month's worth of work to me...!

That is ...OUTSTANDING. The symmetry of the damascus, the inlay and the engraving make that a knife that should be in a museum.

Damn Coop........I'd be afraid to even move it around for the pics! Did it show up in an armored car?!? ;)

UNBELIEVABLE!
