yes, she used a knife as a screwdriver...:barf: :) On a leatherman of all things (it has a screwdriver babe)

haven't we all been there, trying to get the gf to like our hobby and when she does, we find out there's a difference in liking a hobby and knowing something about it ;)

well at least she solved the problem and used a knife, so I can't complain about that

It is a leatherman wave TTI and it was during the holidays in France, so I had myself a nice passtime restoring the chipped s30v edge. in the sun and a nice beer to go with it

The knife was very easily and quickly fixed, even though the (around 3) chips were around 1 mm. I've had other experiences with s30v in the past, so maybe this knife is way thinner or the steel is has been hardened to a softer HRc than other steels.

and a jeweller's loupe to check the edge

I used a small sunscreen bottle with vaporiser as the water container, best one I've found so far to spray water on the stones/dmt.

so, even though no great macro shots but just some quick holiday snaps to feel the vibe, I thought it was a story worth sharing with a moral to take away from it: explain the do's and don'ts to your gf about your knives :)

the edge was totally restored, it was easy to do, a relaxed job and only took me a short time.

I also fixed the neighbours opinel, all the knives provided to us on the campsite for cooking, my sebenza, rc-3, rc-4, two potato peel knives that were more like saws etc.

Oh, and the other 13 days I had a total blast with my family (a girl and two boys), enjoying the sea and the sun!

Nice leatherman, but pics of the g.f. would really be a nice addition to your thread.

I expected much worse. I have seen entire tips removed from screws.

I find myself screwing up edges on purpose lately just so I can re-profile, or otherwise improve upon what I have. Better to do that with edges than women...edges are cheap.

Until you beat them they will ever learn.
Maybe I'll try that one day... all else has failed so far lol :)

Yes, I can see where you are going

Dang, you guys, this was a serious thread...

but ok, because of heavy demand, here's a picture of my girlfriend about 2 hours after she killed the edge of my leatherman.

enjoy!

So you spray your diamond stones with water before use? I've not heard of that before. What is the purpose of this?

Water on the DMT is supposed to help with keeping the metal filings from clogging up the stone while sharpening. DMT says it's optional, you can sharpen wet or dry as long as you wash it off afterwards.

I generally use a little bit of water with my diamond stones too. As previously mentioned, it helps to keep the filings from building up & clogging the matrix. I've found it's a good way to control the metal 'dust' too. Makes the bench/counter cleanup a little easier afterwards.

sharp!
small sebenza with custom scale g10 in orange

Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of that knife too! Bet it looks good.

BTW, Zyhano... it's always good to see someone who knows how to 'take care o' business', when issues like this present themselves. No whining, no griping (save for a little of the 'tongue in cheek', humorous variety ;)). Just observe & evaluate the problem, then do what's necessary to make it right again. Takin' charge.

That's always a good thing to see. Well done!
