The good news: $0.73/pound for an anvil!

That's not an anvil. That's called an "ASO". (Anvil Shaped Object) :D

No no Phillip, it's not an ASO it's a POS!:D

My first ASO was one of Harbor Freight's 110 lb genuine Russian made gee whiz, honest to goodness cast steel $89 whiz-gidjets. It works ok for a cheap ASO and is better than no anvil at all. Not all that bad for a little less than $0.81 per pound.

By the way, if some one in SW Washington/NW Oregon wants to come pick it up I could probably be persuaded to part with it for a slight consideration. Though I've been thinking of posting it on Ebay and see how many hundred dollars this thing will bring.........:jerkit:

My first (and only, so far) anvil is one of the Russian ones. I paid $110 for it on ebay, then found out months later Harbor Freight sells them for a lot less.
I think they missed the heat treat on mine; it's not a whole lot harder than the stuff I forge...
This summer, I found some h13 "rings" at a local salvage yard. They're apparently used rollers from a steel mill. They weigh 64 pounds each and have a real good temper. And only cost 20 cents a pound. Soon I'm going to go get a couple more, and stack them. Should make a great anvil.
