So how are these knives? I know there are quite a few available from this design but are they as handy if not handier than a typical drop point knife? Just trying to get an idea of if this is a good future purchase and a good knife for everyday use, light outdoor use. Stories and adventures welcome. Thanks a lot.

I like mine quite a bit. My office has a "no knives" policy (ironically, this is because of US laws, not Canadian ones...we run some stuff in the US as well as the GWN, so we have to comply with their rules, and the "no knife" thing comes from south of the border) so I can't carry it every day, but I do carry my mid-tech with me any time I can. I've found it to be very useful, especially when I was building a little sailboat. Great for light chiseling of wood, scraping glue, etc. Also worked well as an improvised draw knife. For EDC and light outdoor use, I think it would be a fine purchase.

If you do a search here, you'll also see that it works well for preparing pot roast. :D

Edited to add: In case you didn't see this, the blade is shaped like a chisel, but not chisel ground. The main edge is hollow ground, and the chisel tip is flat ground. If you do get one, I would recommend sticking with 3/16" It's already a very stout little knife, and I think that 1/4" would be overkill.

I have carried mine for the past year and a half. I have no complaints. I have beat it pretty good around the farm and I have yet to find any chips in the tip or main edge. The biggest plus are the knifemakers. I have talked to Josh several times and no matter how busy they are my questions have been answered in full. Josh worked with me on getting my drop point in time for hunting season. For edc carry the kydex and leather sheath both provide quick, safe access.

I looked at them at the Atlanta Blade Show. I like them. Unfortunately as with most custom knives, I'd probably just throw it in the safe and look at it from time to time. I would consider buying one of the factory copies. You can buy them through New Graham.

I've had my Razel for a number of years. It's a real workhorse.
Never let me down even though I sometimes use it for prying and stuff it's meant to do but most of us have the paradigm that we shouldn't. :)
I know that if my Grahams chip out or have some problem caused by me....there's the hard use again...
Graham Knives will fix it.
Here's my current Razel. It's their MidTech line of Razel....

These are made to be used and appreciated in hard or edc use...

They make clip points also.
Here's some of my Graham knives

Here's some with Linen Micarta. Nice grippy, pointy and sharp!!!!

So go get one and use the dang thing.
With the Razel you have two very pointy tips to pierce. Then slice away with the vee grind blade.
I'm no fan of chisel grind. I think chisel grind has a VERY hard use characteristic that is just not for me.
Let us know what you end up with.
Tom

I have a ringed razel. I really like it.

I'm thinking about ordering another custom razel of 1/8" D2.

What U.S. law prohibits us from carrying knives? I mean, most of us here are from the U.S. and, well, we do carry knives... Maybe you're getting laws confused with private company policies.

Torz: It's a company policy based on US law. The company I work for owns and operates natural gas pipelines (including some in the US), and there's apparently some regulation concerning bringing "weapons" into a facility that controls a gas pipeline. I could be wrong on this, but when I read about the "no knife" policy, that's what I remember it saying.

As for the Razel, here's a pic of mine sitting in the leather sheath:

I carry my mid-tech Razel from time to time. Its my go to knife in the yard. It's not a large knife by any means so SOB carry has been great for me.

Sharp design for sure.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words, and glad to hear you guys are enjoying you knives.

BAfarmer, speak of the devil, here it is and ready to ship out.:D

Foxhole, I still want to see pics of that boat finished. Did it sink or float?

Whoops! My bad! Should have sent that a long time ago. No knife content in the first pic, but a good shot of the maiden voyage.

And here's me using the Razel as a drawknife. (note that I used only the finest rare woods)

Well, the pictures were taken a little over a month ago, and the problem was that the water was actually too warm. It was full of algae, and the launching "beach" was just disgusting. The wind had blown all the surface scum over to the side where we launched, and there were piles of rotting green gack all over the place with clouds of tiny little flies over it.

But it makes for a pretty picture! :D
