Anyone any experience with the large Graham Razel by CRKT? I think I love it, cool sort of style to it and its not unlike the knife in Rambo. All gonna depend on the feedback I hear back from my internet dwelling knife zen guru's whether I get one.

What's the point in not having a point. I miss the point! Points are extremely useful for a number of chores. A blade without a point is half a blade because blades only have two useful things ; points and sharpened edges.

And your point is??? :D

Yeah I know what your saying but I'd suppose you'd have to carry a folder maybe too. That I suppose could be seen as a bad point, the knife itself isnt self sufficient but it means you get to carry more knives which can only be a good thing riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?

My assistant has one licensed by Graham and made by CRKT. I sharpen it for her. Often! :( The front chisel point is invaluable for scraping labels off of glass, "fitting" plastic and wood parts in new equipment, etc.

It's a specialized knife that is probably much more valuable in the office, lab, warehouse, or workshop than it is for a general purpose EDC. But I have become quite fond of it.

In fact, I'm seriously considering ordering one from the Graham Brothers in S30V for my own use, since the CRKT isn't really up to my standards in blade steel. (I believe it's 8CR0-something or other ) But it's definitely not up to the S30V the Graham Brothers use.

It really depends what you intend to use it for. For a lot of tasks, like the ones Ben Dover mentioned plus gasket removal, rough wood chisel work, etc., the front edge has a genuine use and more utility than a point. I have a Graham Bros Razel in S30V and have used the sharpened front edge more than a few times. It doesn't, imo, replace a more traditional blade shape, but I am never without a pocket knife with at least one blade anyway.

I wouldn't really compare it to the knife in the latest Rambo though. The size difference is enormous and the front is a sharp v-grind much like a chisel.

Why the change of heart?

I just wanted to mention that one of the guys over at W&SS subforum had the large one, and did not like the serrations on the back of the blade prevent you from batonning or using the knife like a drawknife.

I have heard a lot of good things about the folding Razels from CRKT. Good lock-up, and a comfy handle. Price is good too.

I have only 2 Chinese knives and they are both CRKT Razels, one stubby and
one folding. I also have a custom Graham Ringed Razel in CPM154CM and
I have to say the quality of the CRKT products is surprisingly good. Don't think
you can go wrong with either of these, although the folder is a little
heavy for my taste.

It just looks more like somthing that should be in my tool box and not hanging by my side. I know astethics isnt really that important but I still wanna like my knives.

I had a custom large Razel (SS6 I think) with ironwood handles for a couple years. Very cool knife, but it was so pretty that I couldn't bring myself to use it. Also, much too big for EDC. I eventually sold it and downsized to a used small custom Razel. Perfect size for in-pocket carry and it's used so I don't have to worry about messing it up. I also have one of their pocket kukris. Very cool knife. Wish I could carry it more.

I have a Graham SS3 custom, SS3 midtech and a Wee Razel and I love them both. Great little workers and the SS3 provides more than enough of a point for working. The things that puts these over the top are that they sit perfectly in the hand, are comfortable to use and carry great. BEI, you shouldn't write it off until you get a chance to wrap your mits around one. All that being said, I haven't had the chance to try out one of the CRKTs. For the money I'd be tempted to snag a CRKT stubby just to check it out. Hope it works out for you.

If it helps at all "Fiddleback" (Andy Roy) has some of his Bow Legged knives for sale over in the custom area for darn reasonable prices. Kinda similar in overall shape but more of a reverse tanto. The point is a tad more refined I think and the steel is definitely better (O1). You might want to check them out.

I am not a CRKT fan in general but I think they did a great job on the Graham Bros. collaboration pieces.

Even the Jon Graham was pleasantly surprised with the fixed blades this time last year when they were unveiled. He said, "They're almost too good!"

I like the regular sized ringed razel. I've been thinking about purchasing the stubby razel folder as well.

Three in my rotation .. well excepted by the sheeples at work .. very good general purpose hard use knives .. do not replace my usual EDC's except in the work enviroment.

They do have a point, that bottom corner works just fine as one.:D

No help on the custom Graham Bros - mine is a Spearpoint. I do have one of the CRKT versions & it worked well as a yardbeater. The front edge was great for hammering through the roots of a tree I was digging up. The CRKT versions are done well, though the sheath is a lot bulkier than it needs to be. Small complaint for the price though.
