Well I'm doing a major overhaul for a customeron a SATU, which as you all know, is a beast of a knife. imho there are a number of improvements that can be made to it, which you can see below. More pics to follow in the coming days =) Still have to cerakote it!

Starting off: Had to completely disassemble, including removing the thumb stud

Next up: completely change the blade shape and regrind to even everything up and give optimum cutting ability.

Then I added a finger choil: have to be careful here, can't take it too far or you will mess w/ the mechanics. We want it just right ;)

Thanks for checking out the pics!

And continuing on!

Man... the potential is coming out!! Here you can see the contouring roughed in:

And here are the final pics prior to the Cerakote application! Turning out beautifully! note that the edge angle is now at 15 dps (pretty acute for this knife, stock is about 25 dps or something). I did not go too thin because I wanted to retain some toughness for this beast!

Man, the contouring fits a hand like a GLOVE!! THIS is how it should have been! ;)

i will admit your doing a great job man...i mean real great. but as a customer...sell the satu and buy a strider. cuz thats what i looks like.
well...a way better looking strider. agin great job

I really like the contouring, and that's a bad thing, because the last thing I need are more ideas!!

Blade is killer, literally!!

That knife just needs a finger choil....

Great work as always bro, very clean and a knife you can still use. Function and Form is your work!

Here are the final pics guys, all purtied up!

Main edge is set to 13 dps but is quite thick, whereas the tip was zero ground and then given a secondary bevel on the Wicked Edge. With the contouring this thing fits like a glove... seriously.

Alex... you know you want something Cerakoted now!

You do great work Josh, especially regrinds.
Too bad i'm in the Netherlands and you're in the US, otherwise you would be my first choice to do a regrind on my Buck mini Strider 881 tanto in BG42 steel.

Thanks guys!

You do wonderful work on the Paper wheels my friend... I keep up w/ your work :) Sorry you do not live closer!! Those buck striders are insanely thick from the ones I have handled. If you ever need anything from the us don't hesitate to drop ship stuff to me and I will package them up and send them to ya.

Nice job man! Wanna try this with my dua?

Sure why not! =) I am about 4-5 business day turn around right now though!

I love the zero grind...

You need to explain the benefits that you have noticed as I know nothing about the function...

Yes, I want something Cerakoted!!
That will be a part of our next project for sure..

Amazing work on this beast, it looks like a custom, and it should qualify as one looking at all the work in that.

Unbelievably well done modifications Josh. It now looks like a factory custom. I am more than impressed!

Grind stability has everything to do with: stock thickness, grind height and type, and how thin you go at the very edge. This is why if you do something like a scandi grind then you don't want a secondary bevel or that will hinder cutting ability. This is also why Emersons excel at zero grinds and are still stable. If you take a full flat ground spyderco and try to go to zero, it would not be stable and would have lateral edge deflection when you push on it.
