"The Great Throwzini"

Sounds interesting, but I don't think I will be throwing any of my khukuris any time soon. I think the blade would hold up ok, but my lack of throwing skill would probably make short work of the handle. I think the weight of most khukuris would make them devestating throwing weapons even if they hit the target with the spine or flat of the blade.

The one shown in the thread looked to be a special Khuk made for throwing. I don't have one. I have some good Hawks and HI Khuks. I have one hawk that I have thrown just for the fun of it but, if faced with any kind of fighting situation there will be no throwing away prefectly good weapons. I don't care how good one is with MA's, bare hands against long knives and hawks is a very poor choice. Like Jim Clifton says "No khuk is a bad choice":)

The only way I would throw mine in a fight is if I had a 12 Gauge as backup..:D

I'm not into throwing tools or weapons unless I have a vast supply of backup pieces.
I generally tend to agree with that. However some tools are made for throwing (as Pappy mentioned that khuk looks like it was designed for it) and there are some that could be used in a pinch. I think most of the throwing tools were designed as hunting implements first, to allow the hunter to take something faster than him or allow him to stand off from some point of relative safety. The relative safety part is what made them attractive for combat. That said, I'm not about to go throwing any of my khuks either, though I wouldn't mind having one designed for it to play with. I'm not into knife throwing but I always wanted to try one of those sticks Marlon Brando used in "The Missouri Breaks"

Throwing a perfectly good knife in a fight makes about as much sense to me as carrying a revolver and one round....not much at all.

I could see throwing a knife in an attempt to bag a rabbit or something--as long as it wasn't that critter in the Monty Python grail movie.

Gasp, cringe, shudder. A good knife can provide you with a range of improvised projectile weapons like rabbit sticks, spears, and bows and arrows. In a fight, thrown objects can be used to distract/confuse/injure an opponent. I'm thinking rocks, bricks, bottles, etc., close and finish with the knife. In this age of firearms, the knife is often a last resort weapon, definitely not my choice as the first thing to "throw away". Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.;)

i wouldnt throw my kukris, thats what cobbles pebbles & stones are fore! ask my ancestors! they were the projectile ideal hunting tool round these parts 10000 years ago {end of the last ice age}their favorites were idealy 3inch diameter and round as a marble for accuracy,Ive found a couple amognst the bones of seagulls, goat and a wild auroch in the local mesolithic midden, they bring home the food, *%^*! throwing my kukris!
i must admit i might throw one of those big tip sharpend cleavers though, just for the fun of it, as long that is that my khuk was still on my belt!

In a survival hunting situation I'd loose my last arrow at game thinking that I'd be able to get it back. In a survival combat situation if I didn't have a knife or something of equal value I'd save that arrow for hand to hand rather than letting it fly and keeping the bow only to fight with.

I like the analogy of revolver with one round.
