I looked in a box and found probably the first knife I ever bought almost 20 years ago.

A real beaut'!

Innovative features like the "guard handle separation".

Many of you know me as "the definitive knife expert of finer things" but the answer to this question still eludes me...Is this the greatest knife of all time(s)???

That is a Rigid brand boot knife. It was a division of United Cutlery I think.

I'd have to think about it...that's like asking to trade a 50's Custom Les Paul for a new Schecter (any model). One is tried and true and the other one is an untested new kid...meh.

I had one of those when I was a kid. I used to throw it all the time. It actually put up with that for about a year before it snapped at the guard.

I remember getting something similar when I was a kid. One edge came unsharpened so that the knife wouldn't be classified as a "dagger" and therefore illegal to carry. That was quick to rectify with a few minutes on a whetstone.

I think I remember throwing mine at a lot of trees, too, Gregorio.
