As a young lad wandering around Boulder, Co. in the sixties; I grew quite familiar with Western Cutlery. Over the years I have owned several examples and even lucked out in a five dollar grab bag that contained an L-77.
For several years (ok, a decade or so) I had always meant to grab a WW77. Somehow my priorites always seemed to go to much more expensive stuff. A recent round on the net showed that the model had been discontinued at many sites, so I ordered one. I hoped it would come with leather, as advertised but this was not the case (or sheath). The kydex version is ok and I see some potential there.
My dissapointment is the grind quality. Granted this is an inexpensive item and often deeply discounted. I wouldn't think of trying for a return through the company that drop shipped it from another. One side has a center line that misses the point by an eigth of an inch. The good side shows the correction and the line wavers back to center.
Is Camillus sending seconds off to wholesalers or is the inspection process bad?
It's still a great little piece and has sharpened up nicely.
I just have to wonder how many get through like this. If I had paid retail and ordered direct, I'd probably be hopping mad. As it is, I am just left to wonder how the rest of the line is fairing.
I used to buy wooden handled screwdrivers, ground by a blind man, that showed better work
Cheers
