A thing of beauty.
I wanted yellow Nay I neeeded yellow.
I was checking out the new Codys but for some reason this older one appealed more.Something to do with smooth V basket weave bone.
According to the signed letter that came with it there are only 2 like this. How cool.

.
This one is from 2008.
The first one from GEC that was less than sharp out of the tube.
In fact if I'm honest it was completely blunt.
Wondering if that is because it's a prototype?
Shouldn't make a difference.
You don't have to be perfect to be beautiful.

Lovely knife Meako. Nice to hear the Grippalid4000 has been running! :D

I looked at this and a walnut for about 3 weeks before I hit the button.
For a Northfield its a bit rough round the edges.

Cheers mate-theres not too many of them around either. This one will get heirloom status ....shortly when I've finished with it.

I know the feeling and ended up with a prototype for the same reason, albeit for a different color (three guesses which color, though I'll bet you can get it in one :D).

Interestingly, my sole prototype, also a Northfield from 2008, is (was) also "rough around the edges"-- nothing major or problematic, but just not quite "there"-- and one of the blades looked like it barely touched the grinding stone (think butter-knife-rounded-edge, with a tiny lick of a bevel).

I've often wondered if the above was due to the earlier year (it's my only 2008) or its being a prototype.

Your own findings are entirely unhelpful in narrowing this down. Heh.

-- Great knife. Congrats! Glad you had a means of getting that tube open....

Nice looking knife, Meako. Is it a 23 or 73 pattern? Can't quite read it.
Glad the Grippalid has lived up to the hype!!:D

Whoops, spoke too soon. I just realized the WLST® I'm carrying today is also a 2008 Northfield, and it is impeccable.

Now, albeit in different light:

Still too small a sample size to draw conclusions, but I'm leaning toward less "user" care given to prototypes. I guess that makes sense?

Charlie its got 735208 stamped on it.Pertinux-yes that does make sense.
I had to go back and look for the tube topper thread to remember what I called it.
Sadly I have a few major expenses on the horizon-just pesky run of the mill things like car registration, chainsaw servicing (after 11 years I thought it earned it) and mtb replacement parts.
That caused me to miss out on a Case walnut peanut-I'm devastated.A WALNUT PEANUT!!
Quote "Can we take it easy on the knives this month?" unquote. Translation "If you buy one more %&$@ing knife, I'm leaving!".
.....but sweetie its a walnut peanut....
