The Griptilian and me

Over the years I've bought and sold I don't know how many knives but one that has always been a firm favourite is the Griptilian. Like many, I consider it the perfect pocket knife! The ergos, overall size, blade to handle ratio, the mighty Axis lock and the amazing quality that BM offers... all come together in one perfect package.

The M390 Ritter and the S30V Ritter with Wilkins are the ones I carry but the M390 Ritter gets more pocket time than anything else. It is just the perfect pocket knife! I actually like the light scales, the only thing I changed was the clip - for a polished split arrow.

I have long wanted a drop point standard Grip in an upgraded steel like S30V. Problem was when I did get one (or two) like the REI edition they are limited ed and too nice to carry! But one day I will find one that is slightly used and then I will carry it. I dont care if it has noryl GTX scales, but I do like their S30V. Or the 20CV which is apparently very good too.

If I luck into a nice used M4 I'll carry that in a heartbeat. My dream is to find another M4 Ritter but that is a VERY long shot.

These are the ones I have accumulated over the years. L - R: M390 Ritter. S30V Ritter w/red G10 Wilkins, REI and REI, SHOT Show M4, Ritter Grip M4.

Very nice collection! All though a little pricy you could build your ultimate grip now on the benchmade website or frankengrip something with what you have as well

Yup, expensive it is! I configured a standard Grip with nylon scales and a S30V blade and the total with shipping was $185.94! They wanted to charge me tax too... weird.

Its a real shame, I think they could make an absolute killing on it if they just somehow made it more affordable.

The Grips, large or small, are a good all around knife. Add some aftermarket scales and you can change the looks and feel of them. Expensive but that's part of the game. Great knives no matter what scales are on them.

Right now I have the Shot Show version in M4 and love it. It's a cutting machine and looks great!

Nice pair Nathan! I need ANOTHER full size M4 Ritter for a user! :D

We can only hope that they do another run at some point. I'm sure it could happen if everyone begged loudly enough although since they upgraded to M390 the need isn't quite as great.

I NEED a full size M4 Ritter. I have a couple M4 mini Ritters and here are my M2s

Wilkins! thank you i was saying Putnam for that style of scales (red) lol

That's one of my favorite looking knives and I haven't owned one yet
A Ritter with Wilkins scales just looks beautiful!!
Nice collection!

Thank you! The Wilkins do add heft and bulk. If you have bigger hands, they are a worthy addition. Personally I dont mind the standard issue scales at all.

Really? Interesting! I would've thought they gave it a slimmer profile since they seem flat vs the curved stock ones.

I only had a standard grip with OD green scales so I don't have much to go on; either way, they look legit! I specially like the custom ones I've seen with flow through construction.

The standard scales are convex and therefore thin out at the edges, whereas the Wilkins are the same thickness throughout. So there's that. Plus the G-10 is obviously heavier. Then there's an aluminium backspacer which adds a bit more bulk. I personally think the Wilkins scales could be a hair slimmer and that would help a lot. The lack of shaping at the edges also makes disengaging the lock a tad trickier as the buttons dont stick out as much.
