Something I've been working on. I just got it bead-blasted (thus the recent thread about blast cabinets). 16 ovl, 1/4 inch 0-1. Green micarta handles. They were originally supposed to be black micarta "bolsters" in the front, but somehow, I used the wrong stuff. There are a few "blems" in it that I don't like.

I really like the design of the knife, and at least in the pictures, the two part handle looks kind of cool. My concern is the bead blasted 01 blade. I have never left a carbon steel blade bead blasted, because when I blast them they seem to rust instantly. I have noticed a few other blade in the for sale forum lately that were bead blasted carbon steels, and wonder how they hold up. I personally don't even, like to bead blast ats-34 because it seems like it rusts too quickly. I have literally had blades rust just from rinsing them off in hot water and drying them immidiately when they were blasted. Do you coat the blade with anything to stop this? How does it work?
Once again I really like the design.

Wax and oil is the only solution, but it works well. That's the only problem with 0-1, bead-blasted or satin finished. It loves rust. :grumpy: :D

I'm glad you like the design -- I call this one my little "proto."

Thanks Bruce -- it's a good thing I'm doing the handle work on that collab knife! ;)

Mike,

Very cool looking knife. Can shoot me off an e-mail with ta price on that bad boy?

I said somthing in a post about bead blasting 01 I don't think you may have seen it.But I knew Greco uses alot of carbon steels and I have been told by a maker I talk to on the phone
that it can be sealed with Brownells clear spray on lacquer
that is backed on.Also Dutch boy has some out that works, just use a blow dryer or heat gun it get the blade warm and spray it on do that for several coats and it works.
Brownells has to be backed on,but you may want to look into somthing like that to stop rust.Just some thoughts

I'll look into that -- no, I didn't see that before. I'll find something to give it good coating, right now I stick with some wax (like the ol Alaskan hunters used to use on their 'blasted rifles). But I'm always for extra protection against mr. rust. ;)

That's a monster Michael! Some serious grinding on that thing and it looks great.

But hey, what happened to your head? Your photographer needs a little instruction, I haven't seen a whole head cut off for years! :D
