The Hand Shock and other such things that create non lethal escape opportunities.

I want to introduce you all to a self defense weapon I found a while ago that I found strangely *attractive*. It is called the Hand Shock, and is apparently used by Israeli people as, you guessed it, a pain compliance mechanism. Here it is:

Pretty cool, eh? There is also the Trex control baton that I like very much, though it is seventy plus dollars :grumpy: Here it is:

It uses leverage instead of brute strength to put the beat down on most ordinary assailants. Although, could you even imagine having that on you all the time? It would be ludicrous. "Wait, Guy Who Wants To Kill Me! I must defend myself by unzippering my Trex Control Baton's bag, pulling it out, and gripping it correctly, before defending against your attacks! Oh yes!" OH NO. That is all I have to say on that, OH. NO. Anyway, even the Hand Shock is not so very practical when facing a quick draw situation. Its rather large and cumbersome looking, you have to grip it right to be in control of the situation, though, with the right training and natural talent, a, say, martial arts grand master could just about obliterate an assailant with it in seconds. I'm just saying, I am NEVER going to be a martial arts grandmaster. I'll be lucky if I make it to green belt before studying a new martial art besides Tang Soo Do. One'll also be lucky to not be arrested for carrying a suspicious looking weapon, for the Hand Shock and the Trex Control Baton both fall into just such a category in policing eyes, most likely. Maybe I need to get a weapons permit, because I am liking the hand shock a LOT despite the disadvantages I see to its name. Oh well, I'm not getting it anytime soon. I guess I should head out, now. Peace everyone, and see you all later. I hope you all get a kick out of this thread. Bye.

Learning how to apply the techniques with everyday objects will save you a lot of headaches if you ever have to use them.

I like the Trex control baton a lot. Problem is how to carry it compact here.

Agreed totally.
A FMA told me a simple old-style bottle opener will give the attacker some tough times!

A decent pen, a small flashlight, a small metal ruler.

And you can find these useful in everyday life, keeping them handy, not dedicating your attention to some martial arts toy. On the other hand, I carry a ComTech Stinger every day. As a "massage device". :)

Thanks everyone for your insights. I am, (I'm not exasperated or anything, I am stating my thoughts here) well aware that everyday tools, objects and items can become effective means of self defense. All I'm saying is that I like the hand shock. It's not exactly the best option for ease of deployment, but it must be easier to use than the Stinger, because it does not have as 'set in stone' places to grip, therefore, lessening the time spent fumbling for the correct grip of the Stinger, though, I know for a fact that the Stinger is nonetheless a very effective means of defending oneself, so, in the end, its usually what is on you that matters, including your skills and your equipment.
Though, I must say, Esav, while they may appear to be toys, there is no doubting the visceral reality that the hand shock and other numerous self defense options are indeed WEAPONS. Especially when in the hands of a master of martial arts. But, once again, it makes sense that true mastery is making a weapon of yourself and what is around you, the ability to gain advantages in shortest span of time possible. Ah, whatever, this turning philosophical on me, so I guess I'll leave before I talk too much and say something stupid. See you all later, and peace.

Man, that's no joke. Could you imagine someone locking your thumb back with that opener
I sometimes carry one of those plastic self defense fist pack/stinger things. However, I usually make my wife take it with her when she takes our daughter out for a jog. I usually carry a small metal flashlight...or sometimes even a full size mag light on a belt holster, if I'm going to be traveling to areas where self defense is frowned upon (ya know, places where you are supposed to allow yourself to quietly be shot or stabbed then call the police with a full detail of the encounter so that they can respond to it in turn).

However, here at "home" I don't monkey with most of that stuff. If someone is deemed enough of a threat for me to grapple for pressure points, they are enough of a threat to be shot center mass.

Jay, I heard similar words from a Silat Guru but he referred to some other tools

Looks like many of us are having a similar idea just for the sake of survival ;)

I normally carry a reflexology tool in my pocket :)
It looks similar to those in the picture below:

And I carry a cane as well when I go for jogging :D
