The handle on my Spyderco Kumo?

Just a quick question regarding my Spyderco Kumo...

I love the knife and want to use it for hunting, but am not crazy about the handle material and do not think that it will stand up to much abuse in the woods. As such, I am thinking of sending it out to someone for some modifications (i.e. micarta handle, etc.).

Do you guys think this is a good idea?

Thanks.

Spyderco worked quite a bit on making the handle "tough" enough to stand up to hard work. HOwever for hunting, too much blood and guts would get trapped in the nooks and crannies...creating a smell of death that will affect future hunting expeditions as well as womanly relations. If you have to take it hunting, a new handle would be a good idea.

Would be a shame to cut off that handle though. It is the soul of that knife.

I know, the handle is real nice, but it is already getting marked up a bit from use. You are right though, I do not think that dressing a deer would be a good idea. But the knife is so awesome in the hand!

Ughhh, what to do.......

Hey Guys...

Charles...
I concur with everyone on this...

If you remove the wrap you "F" the knife up..
The Kumo isn't a hunting knife....

Go get a real hunting knife and leave the poor knife alone..

I guarantee 5 minutes after you take it apart you'll regret it...

Unless you are a knife maker and know how to rehandle a knife, don't bother.. It's too much work for the effort...

If you want a kick ass hunting knife go get a Spydie Morin drop point or the Swept Featherlight....

Your right, I have plenty of hunting knives I can use. No need to mess with my Kumo.

Thanks guys for the reality check.....

:D

I agree with the above posts, to a degree. You would be surprised what the epoxy impregnated handle of your KUMO can endure. I have cleaned a lot of dirty, grimy wrapped handles using nothing more than hot water, dishwashing soap and an old toothbrush. After cleaning, wrap in paper towels amd squeeze hard to soak up the water. Then, spray with WD40, re-wrap in paper towels and squeeze again. You can follow with a blast of compressed air if you like.

Try it. you'll like it. Gets rid of scuffs and makes the handles look new.
