So I've come across several different handle materials and I was wondering what you prefer?
For a survival knife I pick that plastic/nylon stuff because its tough, heat resistant and most likely to go the distance.

Hello,

I like Micarta; like on the Randall 14 and 15. Slabs are good too.
and
550 Paracord; like on the Strider blades.

In a grab and run situation, I would take the paracord.
It can be used for all sorts of things, and it's easily replaceable.

Cheers,
Hal

Micarta rocks. It is grippy and indestructable. I do like the feel of a good wood though.

I like something fairly dense that can be smoothed if it isn't already. A knife with a really light handle doesn't feel right to me, and the rubber-oid materials just give me blisters during heavy use. It also helps if the material is not bug-juice-soluble.

Wood is good; micarta is better.

I love the feel of kraton and zytel.

believe it or not. those are my fav's.

I have had alot of the custom stuff but those plastics feel great in my hand.

Besides the excellent grip that this material offers, I also prefer G10 because of its' high resistance to hot/cold temperatures, and chemicals. It's pretty tough stuff!! ;)

Hey there all...

G10 is the only way to fly..danged near indestructable. I used to like Micarta... the only problem is that micarta absorbs scents...after a while it smells gamey. G10 does not have that problem

Yea .........OK ......so whats micarta and G10?

I've made a bowie for general use around the camp and at the moment its only got cord as a handle. Could someone please show me a couple of pic's and maybe somewhere I can scrounge this stuff from. :)

Micarta is fibre glass resin impregnated with paper or linen canvas.

Just punch it in the internet for a description. Blocks for handle material can be found on Ebay and other knife supply shops.
I have seen it in Green, brown, jade, ivory, red, blue, and yellow.

I'm sure G-10 is available as well. I have only seen it in black.

Cheers,
Hal

G10 is available in Black (great with pearls), Red, Blue, Green

Great stuff...I am having M1911 grips made and ALL my knives handles are made of G10.
