Hello knife people (virtuovice narration).
I thought I'd introduce you all to my Hanzo Box, which contains every folding knife I've ever wanted, in exactly the color, size and material, since the day I became interested in knives. The reason I call it 'Hanzo' is because whenever I open it, the song from when Hattori Hanzo introduces Beatrix to his Samurai Sword collection in Kill Bill plays in my head (video found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qtGbuzq79E). I don't know why, but I guess it symbolizes blade perfection to me. Unfortunately the video is dubbed with gibberish.
I live in Australia, where folding knife imports are among the strictest in the world. All of these knives are banned from import unless you have a license of super special kind, and not many vendors do. As a result these knives are incredibly hard to find and sell quicky at ridiculous prices. It has taken me years to get to this point, but finally its here. I have shown varieties of this box to the Australian blade forum, but since my collection finally is complete I thought I'd share it here too.
Enough banter, here we go.
The box is made by Yanni Rigos from Woodalchemy and is made from rare Tasmanian Fiddleback Blackwood. The lid reminds me of a layer of silk and the shadows of the lines changes slightly depending on the angle you view it from. I am not sure if you can see it in these pictures.
Inside you will find 4 knives
- Rick Hinderer XM-24
- Strider SMF
- Spyderco Paramilitary 2
- Sebenza 25
I consider each knife to be the best its maker has produced, with size and intended ergonomics (where applicable) being taken into consideration. That is of course my personal conclusion.
The box has certain rules; different makers, colours, handle finishes/combinations, steels etc. The Hinderer and Sebenza are both made of S35VN, but finding a Hinderer in CTS-XHP steel here is brutally difficult (and pricey), so that will happen should it happen.
I originally used the beige ribbon in the back for looks, and to be able to tilt the knives. What I love about it is that it allows for my knives to lie on their clips in order to show the scales, without the knives tilting to either side (hence why the spyderco lies upside down. But then again its the 'cheapie' here, and I like the way it separates itself).
As we turn them around the other sides are also different, a bit more natural looking.
Freedom!
And the mandatory belly shot.
In the blue cloth, there is very handy screw driver which has a compartment for different screws inside of it. All the screws fit all the knives in this box. The only thing this doesen't have is the tool that holds the main Strider/Hinderer lock in place. The cloth I use to keep the knives shiny (duh).
That's all from The Hanzo box, thanks for looking. Maybe it will change one day, but not bloody likely.
