The hardest Spyderco to sheath..

..is apparently the FB01 Bill Moran. Not because there is anything wrong with the knife, I dig it a lot, but because I seem to have the most ridiculous amount of sheath trouble!

Long story short, the missus got me a Moran as a birthday present, bless her. She got it from a dealer who does not seem to know anything about knives (they are the same ones who sold me a Matriarch without the box, which was never found). Knife was in the display case, clerk could not find either sheath or box. Finally a box was found.. which is for a Micarta SPOT.. of which they have none for sale and apparently someone somewhere has a Micarta SPOT sans box.

So, an e-mail inquiry was sent to the store about the Moran sheath. With a picture attached so they know what to look for. A month goes by. Then they inform that they have found the box and sheath and are sending them to me. Woot!

Package arrived today. In it was a white Spyderco box for FB01 Moran Featherweight, dated 9/15/00. Yess!

And an incorrect sheath. :foot: At first glance I thought it looked a little wrong but okay, the Moran sheath has seen some amount of change and variation over the years. But no, this ain't made for the Moran. Doesn't fit in there no matter what.

I'm just laughing at this now, I thought I'd be mad but this is getting just too farcical. How incompetent can you really get, there is a printed paper with pictures of the FB01 and sheath inside the box and they still can't get it right! :D

Anyway, here's the current combo of knife and sheath. I think that's an FB05 Temperance sheath, can anyone who owns one confirm?

What a mess. I think the Universe/karma/whatnot is trying to tell me something, I just wish I knew what. :p

Looks like a temperence trainer sheath to me

Trainer might make sense, they seem to have those for sale. Heaven knows what assorted accessories they would come with.

:D

Depends on the size, but it looks a bit (although not exactly) like my orange FB02 Moran DP's sheath and the number of grommets and other holes could have varied over the years.

Attachment holes are different from the Temperance sheath, not sure if that counts for anything.

I think the adjustable sheath tension screw thingamajig is the main differing feature, I tried googling the various FB sheaths and not so many have it.

There was a Tek-Lok (large, old style with sliding bar) included, I removed it trying to see if there was a model marking or other ID on the sheath, took the pic without re-attaching it.

I will work on pics

Yep that would be the one, cheers rycen! :)

The store in question does not get a big vote of confidence from me as you might guess by now.. but, I did order the Temperance trainer they had. It was not expensive and this way I should have a knife (well, sort of) to go with the sheath. Simpler than trying to return the sheath and getting them to find the right one. That ain't happening, not in this lifetime.

Once I have the trainer and this sheath I can at least, ummm, train with them? :D

fun story,

i really won't let them breathe until i get the sheath for the knife i bought though...

Indeed. :)

And I wouldn't mind if they made a mistake and instead shipped me the original Tim Zowada they had. Nothing to complain about if they did that, nosirree. No demand for return and refund. :D

Apologies for the necroposting after nearly four years, but this thread needed some closure.

My Moran is now equipped with a sheath. I never found an aftermarket one (well I also guess I didn't look that actively, all the time) so I made one myself. Got fed up with the sheathless FB01 to the extent that learning some kydex work was called for. Scrounged up the supplies and equipment slowly, one at a time, and today - finally - got around to making the sheath.

Always finish what you start, even if it takes a while! :D

No belt attachment, but the idea was to make a coat or backpack pocket sheath so none really required. Although I think I've got an extra G-clip around somewhere which might just fit in there.

Google knifesheathspro, they make the sheaths for most of Spyderco's fixed blades.

Where was this company and their handy webshop when I needed it years ago!?!? :p

But thanks for the link, it could be useful some day. Although for now I'm happy with the one I made.
