Well, the mail gods were smiling on me today.I thought for sure I'd have to wait till tuesday to get the Belt Hawk.
I don't work fridays & have all my packages sent to work because I live in an apt & had a package taken off my doorstep awhile back.
It was just a Maxp versipack, but could just as well have been a knife.
Anyway....I called & it was there,woohoo!(& I only live 7 miles away)
I took it out to the yard at work & chopped up a couple of hunks of wood.
It came nice & sharp & ready for hackin' & that 01 sure loves to eat wood.
I was surprised by how deep it bit considering how light it is,but then it did come pretty dang sharp.
This little guy is light like a belt hawk should be,but very capable of prosessing your camp wood.
The chips were flyin' as I was hacking through a 3x3 post & then a 2x4.
The solid handle is a nice feature for batoning as the Belt Hawk is just too light to split bigger pieces of wood on its own.(not that there's anything wrong with that)
This puppy has a permanent spot in my camping chuck box.
I can't wait to get my Kephart to go with the first made JK Belt Hawk.(the scratches are from cleaning it up with scotchbrite for the final pic.)
I'm going to go up to the mountains tomorrow & will get some better pics with mother nature.
Ya'all have a good Labor Day weekend now ya here.
