The Heartbreak of missing out

After coming full circle for roughly the 10th time on what to buy as my first real fixed blade, I had decided on a Ratmandu. A great great knife by all accounts, but I'm not the most patient of men and last night decided to browse the exchange and ebay for one. When ebaying I discovered the little and virtually perfect Busse Basic 4, I spent the last 24 hours compulsively bidding on this little guy. I lost out on not only my first fixed blade, but more importantly my first Busse in the last few minutes. I just couldn't force myself to add the last few dollars (I could have ordered a new AMS which is a little smaller but would be new). Hopefully this guy went to one of you fine folks and I'm so disappointed that I'm not sure I can do without a Busse any longer! I'm sure some of yall have similarly missed out over the years and thought I'd share my recent heartbreak.

Missed out on many blades but I have been known to score several Grail Rats in one day! There will be more i promise! Keep your eyes on the Exchange instead of auction sites.

You can find a few in the exchange if you use the search feature. Usually abbreviated with B4. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm sort of enjoying the hunt for just the right one, and the longer I save the more options I have (Pork Shank becomes more and more feasible). I hate missing out and I had mentally prepared myself to carry that guy in my pocket next week. I think I'll stay away from ebay- auctions are too dangerous for drinkers and super competitive people, so I'll hang around the exchange instead!

Yeah it feels prety lousy being outbid in the last min, but hang in there and be patient. Some good deals come around every so often here on the exchange or on EBay. I got my first Busse on EBay, a Boss Street, and I still got it:)

Cannot say how many feebay auctions I have given up... If I had won all of them, I would be dead broke, that's for sure.... unless I had resold all that nice steel...

The exchange here on Bladeforums is the way to go. I have a problem with auctions, once I place a bid I cant stop. I have tried very hard to just avoid them.
Best of luck in your search.

Garth

I hope you find the Busse you have been searching for. I am quite positive you will find something

I'm quite familiar with this problem. I felt fairly confident the B4 I was bidding on was authentic, but it being eBay I was less confident. I tried to set a predecided limit for myself on the risk vs reward, but one coffee cup of rum and my competitive nature later I'm over my limit by 1/3 and trying to explain to myself that I can literally go to the exchange and buy the same thing right now- I don't have to win, but I certainly prefer to.

Good luck in your search for the perfect first Busse for you. There are so many knives that it's hard to go wrog with any of them.

bummer on the loss, but theres plenty more out there you'll find the perfect one.

After a while you will be like the rest of us. Sitting on a perch like a buzzard just waiting for the INFI to pop up!!!

There have occasionally been literal miracle deals on Ebay, but that is not the norm.

Unless you know the actual value, you end up overpaying on Ebay.

I just buy off the exchange here, or direct.

The hunt is part of the fun.

Good luck in your search!
As most other folks have said, look on the exchange here, best place in my book!
