Here is the frog I've been trying to get for us. This one was the first of six that we have received and was on the scabbard that housed the first Gelbu Special we got.

As you can see it is substantial, made of very heavy high quality leather and strongly stitched rather than riveted. It is one of the best frogs I've seen come out of Nepal and the one I would like to see become our standard.

Pala had a small leather goods factory make us six prototypes and after seeing them we all agreed it was a much better frog than the normal standard. He ordered 100 pieces for production but before they could be made and delivered HMG closed the factory for non payment of taxes or non compliance of some kind -- we are not sure.

If the factory gets opened up again we have a go. If it doesn't we will look for another factory or buy a sewing machine for the sarkis and make this type frog in BirGorkha. It is a matter of time and I hope not too much time and this is what we will have on all our rigs. I like it. What do you think!

That looks great! would be a great improvement . The ones lately have been the best I have seen but there is always room for improvement. If you could make this style the standard I would dare say you would have the finist sheaths to be found.I may wait on my G.S. till I'm sure I would get this style.

I've been waiting 12 years, Ice, and it still isn't here! But I won't quit. It is a great looking and very functional frog. And, made to last!

Is the lacing holding the frog togher?

The one piece frogs on the Ang Khola's might be tougher.

Well maybe I won't wait 12 yr.But it sure would be nice to have the best available frog on the best available sheath for the best available khukuri.

Uncle, this frog really looks great, and I would be happy to see frogs of this quality on all my future khukuri sheaths. But, as a relative newcomer, I have to say that the frogs that I've received from HI have been very good, for the most part. I know from what I've read on past threads that frogs have been a real problem in the past, but it really doesn't seem to me that they are now the problem, or priority, they once were.

I have to second Steven there; my late-model Shop2 toad err I mean frog

is quite good except that the original "laces" were...well, bad. Bad as in "flaked apart into shredded crud in a matter of minutes".

Get the Sarkis some genuine leather lace and then tell them to TIE them off versus tucking the ends down in between frog and scabbard

. If real leather lace isn't available something like waxed cotton heavy thread braided into enough thickness to replace the cut-up strips of leather that have been masquerading as lace

.

Pakcik Bill.
If it is a side order - then you might need to develope a various size standard specifications for easy ordering purpose. I guess most of us love to have that HI Superfrogs (supertoads! ... Jim!) for our HI Khukuris!

Actually Colonel that's not *quite* true.

On my frog, I've got two rows of rivet holes but the "outermost" rows are unused. If I were to trim off the inner rows I could adapt this frog to a thinner scabbard. For a fatter one, I could just use longer laces and basically "expand" the frog.

So...only two or three frog sizes total could be adapted for any size short of that 38" monsterchopper. But you'd need *good* laces.

Jim,what I say is "quite true"This was my observation, and solution.I am sure that you know something that I don`t.But this is not one of them.Who should I believe, you or my own senses?
