The Hisshou is a beautiful blade. And it can be found for a good price. It doesn't have much applications except as a self defense weapon. Unless you're in the military then it could have offensive virtues as well. It was not the sharpest knife I have ever held but it slices right through sheets of paper really well. And the tip is not needle-sharp but it is plenty sharp, nevertheless!

I agree. I love the Hisshou just never brought myself to spend that much on a knife that won't get much use. Any time I see it in person though, I'm always tempted to buy it.

Does anyone in the military actually use 18"+ blades like this? I'm genuinely curious if there are dudes toting around huge katana things on the off chance they'll need to cut someone in half.

Anyway regarding the knife, how is the handle? It seems a bit sparse and the lack of a guard makes it seem dangerous to pierce with.

I think the Hisshou is very cool. A big plus for a knife that size, is that it comes with a kydex sheath, and can actually be carried with some kind of shoulder harness.
The only down side for me is the price. It's hugely more expensive than any other CRKT product. I don't know anything about the blade steel ,in fact I've never heard of it, but $350 strikes me as a very hefty price. If it were a hundred dollars less, I'd go for it.

They sell online in the $170-$220 range.

Thanks, you guys. My local dealer has them at $325 ,only $25 less than MSRP. Either he's charging way too much, or CRKT gave him virtually no deal at all.

I had one for a bit. I really liked it. The fit and finish was excellent. I think it was the Japanese style wrapped handle that kept me from loving it. I found it a very good strong grip but not super pleasant to hold.

If I don't love it I sell it. I sold it.
