Regarding the SERE 2000 knife, the Al Mar website states, "Originally designed by Al Mar and Colonel Nick Rowe in the early 1980’s for the U.S. Army’s SERE school, today’s updated models are stronger, lighter and the most precision versions we’ve ever made."

So, was the knife designed to be given to soldiers going into SERE school, or to those soldiers who graduated from SERE? And, does that mean only the Army Spec Ops guys got them---and not the other troops from the other branches?

Just curious if anyone has any additional insight.

The original Al Mar SERE was designed by Col. Rowe as a folder that a soldier could have on their person to handle all the scenarios they might encounter in a SERE situation.

If you don't know who Col. Rowe is google him or read the book "5 years to Freedom." by him.

You mention "...that a soldier could have on their person" so that leads me to believe that it was designed with them in mind, and not necessarily given to them to use during SERE school.

Thank you, Halfneck. That helps.
