Well...I've been pretty busy with work lately so not a lot of time for skills practice other than checking out the wild edibles in the areas I have been working in. It's Wednesday so I know a lot of people are still stuck inside for a few more days... I just thought I'd share some of the pics I've shot while I've been out.

Our deer population seems to still be pretty healthy. The young buck just stared at me between bites and seemed not too concerned with my presence. The doe was a different story. I saw her going through some tall grass and heading around one side of a small knoll...so I went around the other side and set up an “ambush”. Judging by the look of her utter as she was running away it looks like she is nursing young.

I'm not sure what that is he's pointing at me...

The rabbit population seems to be doing better this year than previous years. I've noticed a dramatic decrease in coyote sign.

The Armageddon does an awesome job on the big heavy briers and slices right through with just a flick of the wrist

Which makes getting to the blackberries much easier! Some good sweet ones this year, but we really need some rain!

As I said, it's really dry and dusty here right now, we're supposed to get some rain this weekend, I really hope we do. That's not mist or fog in the background but a dusty haze.

Lots of thistle drying out for good tinder later...considering the sunburn I got today I wasn't really interested in a fire...

The ocoee, or passion fruit (Passiflora Incarnata) is coming along nicely. Won't be long till I'll be munching on some of the first ones :)

Great looking pics, Brian. I really love the pics you post.
I hope you get some rain soon.
Bryan

Some awesome shots there Mist. You see the udders smacking on that doe in flight! Can't believe how advanced those Russian Olives are in their fruit - doesn't usually get that way until August around these parts.

You had me.. until the spider

Thanks for the pics, makes me look forward to deer season.

As for the rain, we could really use some here, too. I am thinking about not even attempting fireworks for the first time in years because of this dry weather.

Thanks Bryan, glad you enjoy them...and man I really hope we do too!

Thanks Ken, and oh yeah lol, saw those as soon as I previewed the shot...didn't really have time to notice while shooting. Yep, they're coming along, still VERY tart and tanic and far from ripe, but looking really good so far. That's because you live up there near the north pole man, probably takes till June to even get good and warm :D

Thanks man, yeah we have LOTS of spiders here this time of year...one of the reasons I don't take the youngest hiking as often as I do during the autumn and winter.

Something tells me you start looking forward to the next deer season about 2 days before the last season ends :)

Yep, I hope we get some rain before the 4th, if not it could be bad.

Nice pics 'Ol Bud...I feel you on the rain ! Great pics of the Assassin bugs !

Thanks man! Yeah, seems to be dryer than usual in a lot of places this year. If it's like last year it'll be bad even when we get rain because it'll come down so hard and fast that it will run off and cause flash floods instead of soaking in.

Yes, right when the season is over I start getting ready for the next. Best time of the year in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more. We need rain, and bad. It isn't looking good right now, with highs in the 90's and no rain being predicted. I will not be doing fireworks. I love the look, but I do not want to burn down the woods around me, or my house.

As far as the spiders... as long as they stay down there and away from me, we're good. :p

Great pics and commentary Mist.

That passion fruit flower is like something out of Dr Morbius' garden! (Forbidden Planet)

You are blessed with some amazing wild edibles in your area...both animal and 'vegetable'.

Oh...you can have some of our rain! Blooming' roof started leaking on Friday.

Passionfruit is one of my favorites, does it grow wild there? The juice is used for ice cream in South America and also to make a custard sort of like a keylime pie but with passionfruit instead.

Cool stuff man. Always enjoy your photos and posts. Keep 'em comin'.

Thanks Scruff. Yeah, I have always thought those flowers looked alien myself. Oh, definitely hard to starve here...for now anyway. Oh, if only we could, we really could use some here!

We have Passiflora Incarnata that yes is native to this area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora_incarnata It is a little different than the Passiflora http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora in other parts of the world but still one of my favorite wild fruits here. I can easily see that since it has a citrus-y sort of flavor to it. I bet that custard is awesome!

Great Photos Bro

Thanks Bill, glad you liked them.
