I have somwhere around 75 knives. Some of these were given to me but most I hunted. Now I don't hunt any one brand or pattern of knife, I hunt them all.My hunting grounds consist of pawn shops, antique shops flea markets and yard sales. My favorite hunting grounds are small out of the way pawn shops, these hunting grounds almost always produce some knives. Whether it be Case, Old Timers, Bokers or other brands. This is where I find the most. I move in slowly looking. Looking for bone, stag, derlin and other signs of a good knife. Patina always catches my eye. When I find one or two,and as in my last hunt three, The haggleing begins. Now this is the most important part of the hunt, take your time and be patient, your knife or knives will come to you. I have spent as much as two hours waiting patiently for my knife or knives, but they always come at my price or relatively close. Now I really love all of my knives, But what I really love is THE HUNT.

The hunt is what really becomes addictive IMO.
We all know that a guy could go through life fairly easily with just a few knives, but thats not the point...

Ironically, it was my wife that pointed this out to me some years back when I was collecting early Winchesters and Colts. She told me one time, You travel all over looking for particular guns and when you get home you disassemble them and clean them, and then they go in the safe. As soon as you lock the safe, your already looking for the next one..
Thats when it really hit me, it wasn't so much about owning them but rather finding them...
Little did she know that I was already back on the hunt again before I even got back home :D
Unfortunately for me, I can't do things in moderation, it becomes a 24/7 obsession. I hate to label it, but for me I think it really was a sickness :(

After I decided to thin things out recently, I can honestly say that it was actually a big relief.. I still have a fair amount of knives, but now I enjoy carrying my old safe queens, honing (lol) my sharpening skills and seeing the pics on here of knives that other folks have. I truly think I am actually enjoying things more now..

I have to agree, I also shoot traditional muzzleloaders and thats another hunt. The good ones are getting harder to find. And they are like my knives, I have way more than I will ever need. Im the same way with the 24/7 obsession I live and breath muzzleloaders and knives. I think it is a sickness also, But what is the cure?

I wish I had a chance to hunt, but with work what it is, and school on top of that, the free time is spent with the lady friend.

Also, all the good stuff is gone by the time I get there. Those old timers sure do scope those places clean of the classics by the time I arrive.
