I remember reading in a magazine that the Becker knife designer said the movie showed about one per cent (or was it 10pc) of what the knife was capable of doing.

If that is the case, what's the remaining 99 per cent that it can do?

Due to its unusual shape, I am curious as to its various functions and capabilities.

Anyone can to enlighten me?

You can use it to kill your dinner. You can use it to cut up your dinner. You can use it as your dinner plate.

Tough question...I guess I'd begin by considering all the things I personally do with my camp knives besides killing my pursuers...:D

For more information on the real knife used in "The Hunted" go to

Dave Beck is a great guy and builds one tough knife. I love the Wilderness Survival Knife he made for me.

On a related topic, here's an interview with actor Benicio Del Toro on his knife training for the HUNTED.

Btw, there were no other brand name tracker knives on the film set, according to Tom Kier- they were all Beck's.

Although 90 percent of the knives handled on camera were rubber props. For training the actors it was a combination of aluminum Sayoc trainers made by Edges2, and a supply of various rubber prop knives (various shapes) that were deemed expendable for the rigors of training by the FX dept.

Rafael,
I was just wandering how you know that Tom Keir said that the Beck Trackers were the only knives on the set of The Hunted. Was there a statement made by him on this forum?
I know that my knives were used in the film but I was wandering if there were also other contributors with this production. Tops has been claiming to have their version seen in the film but I can find theirs nowhere in the production.
I know this is an old topic but is there anyone involved with the film who can clear the air as to who did the work on the real knives which were used for this film other than myself?

David,

Tom Kier replied to a similar thread awhile back on these forums- replying to Brian Jones:

"Brian,
I'm pretty sure the blade given to the props guys was a Beck. But I could be wrong. I know the prop and FX department made all blades used in the movie. They made steel, aluminum, plastic, rubber, retractable, blood pumpers, etc.

It was cool to see all the gimics they had.

Tom Kier"

We rarely used any live blades on the shoot for obvious safety concerns. Just isolated closeups of the metal blade being twirled. That would be the only metal blade. The DVD is coming out on August 12th and you can plainly see if it is your blade from there.

As per other blades... just prop knives like Kabars for the training sequence and we also had a kerambit fight which was nixed because Brown wanted the tracker to be featured. No sweat. The kerambit scene was pretty intense. Maybe another film.

Rafael,

Thanks for your input. Your time is appreciated.
I appologize if I don't recognize you because I don't follow this forum often. You were apparently on the set of the film. What was your participation? Just curious as I think that it must have been a real treat to be on a movie set or be involved with a production.

Dave

Hi David,

Worked on the knife choreography, fight storyboards and was also a technical advisor for the knife fights. I got to the set a month or so after Tom Kier when the fight training got underway.

Check out the link I posted above from BDT's interview. The site also explains the film related projects we do.

best,

If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Kayanan. Were'nt you the gentlemen being trained upon by Mr. Del Toro in the "training camp" scene of the movie? You both did a great job in that scene. The theater was silent the entire time Mr. Jones was speaking.

But as far as whitch knife was shown, I'd swear that the only one I saw was Mr. Becks. The handle and spine serrations are quite different from that of the TOPS Tracker. If I had to purchase just one of them I'd go with Mr. Becks all the way. It can chop, slice, plane, split, whittle, saw, and carve. I'm currently saving up for one and the partner knife that is made for fine work. It does many things well without talking up the room of a hatchet, saw, and plane. And while I have no doubt that the Tracker is a TOPS tough knife, I can see the time and love and attention put into Mr. becks work. He really loves his job.

Well I now have one of Dave Beck's knives and I just love it! It is also my first Starret 01 blade. I have been hacking and whittling with it for a couple of weeks now and have not bothered to sharpen it yet. I had to cut a steak (yes beef) in half with it the other day and the main blade effortlessly sliced right through like one of my freshly steeled kitchen knives would have done. I still haven't decided whether to use my Spyderco Sharpmaker on it or just go free hand on the old stone.

BTW is that the tracker in the opening war scene/assassination? Also I really hope I wouldn't lose my Ka-Bar next gen when it arrives if I go swimming. That sheath seems to be one of the most secure factory models I have handled. I remember he had two Ka-Bars when he started out, but did he drop one or both before going in the water or were they just supposed to have fallen out? I went for a swim the other day wearing what I usually wear when walking around black jeans flight jacket and boots (similar to the character) and boy did that flight coat sure slow me down. The Danner boots didn't help much either but I guess the character had on Catskill Montain Moccasins. I have been thinking of having a pair of these made for hunting. I have owned tons of boots but never any Mocs and these ones seem to be more my style then the average all leather Indian styled ones you usually see.

P.S. Raf or anyone else with a keen eye what kind of blue shirt did Benicio have when he was first caught in the forest? It looks kinda like the top half of a flight suit made into a smock.
