Folks,

One of the many reasons I love CRK is the "spa" services they offer. All the details can be found on their website and most of us are familiar with what they do. I thought it would be an informative and interesting thread to post our before/after pics of sending a CRK to the spa. All CRK's welcome including folders, fixed blades, old and new alike! A few questions you can choose to answer to give us a better understanding:

1. Why did you send it to the spa?
2. What services did you request?
3. What is your opinion of your finished knife?
4. Are there any differences you noticed between a NEW CRK and a REFINISHED one?

I will go first (see next post)!

A year or so ago I purchased this small Reg from a fellow up in the friendly Great White North. It was in solid mechanical condition, but the scales had been lightly scotchbrited and the blade had unsightly "sharpening" marks on it. I decided to send it in to the spa for some love.

1. Why did you send it to the spa?
It needed some TLC, plus I wanted to add new silver hardware.
2. What services did you request?
Blast the scales, tumble the blade, sharpening, tuning, new silver hardware, new lanyard
3. What is your opinion of your finished knife?
Very impressed, but as time passed I regretted replacing the flat-back thumb lug with the new dimpled one.
4. Are there any differences you noticed between a NEW CRK and a REFINISHED one?
Could be my imagination, but the CR logo looks to be a little less defined and the ridges on the back of the spine are not raised as much and seem to be dulled.

Nice 2004 MostMenAreRuthless. There is one feature that gives away its year.

Looks great.
One if the nicest regs you can get, it has the grooved spine which I love and the short lived jimping on the blade- both features that I wish they still offered, even if I had to order it as an option at extra cost.

Thanks for a great thread idea and for sharing that beauty with us.

Looks brand spanking new!! I think it was a wise choice for the spa treatment :)

I just noticed the blade shape is very similar to the 25... If not the same, hmmm

You guys probably already knew that. Just me noticing :D

Dtmbinb--good eye. My brother! It is indeed a 2004!

Eric--thanks for those links--cool videos.

Mr. Abominable--you named all the things I love about it!

Mr. Juice--it does look new! Yes, the blade shape is quite tasty!

When i posted i couldnt see the pics. Now i can, and its pretty much like the videos, the spa treatment is awesome

Very nice MMAR! It's amazing the subtle differences CRK puts into some of these knives. You have a very good specimen there!

Here is a Small Numbered (#31) I sent in. Wonderful service.

1. Why did you send it to the spa?
* It had been rubed by the previous owner.

2. What services did you request?
* Have the scales blasted, sharpened and any thing else they thought it needed.

3. What is your opinion of your finished knife?
* Every time I deal with CRK's my opinion goes up...it was beautiful!

4. Are there any differences you noticed between a NEW CRK and a REFINISHED one?
* The #31 did not stand out as much, but that is not a complaint, they did a wonderful job!

Here goes.

This thread has inspired me to send mine in. I shall report back after I get some images of the before.

Here you go. The before images. Check back in couple of months for the new look. It has the normal Ti scratches that can be fixed. Perhaps the blade needs a good sharpening.
Will be asking for an overall tune up on both functional and aesthetics.
Hopefully Chris can reissue another birth certificate. Will retain all the original parts. Unperforated washers and flat screws. Scales having D00 markings.

This is one of the best "features" of owning a CRK.

I was leaning so much toward another cf inlay until I found those don't get the same treatment as let's say, a micarta.

Opted for a small starbenza from WC. :)

I just needed to be back. I also just need to stop selling my CRK when I need money.

Mods, do me a solid.. If you see me listing this CRK for sale, please close my thread. lol :p

Awesome pictures thus far! Keep 'em coming!

1. Why did you send it to the spa? To change to silver hardware, and blast the scales
2. What services did you request? Double lug, silver hardware, perforated washers, clean, tune, sharpen
3. What is your opinion of your finished knife? It's what I imagine it looked like 10 years ago when new
4. Are there any differences you noticed between a NEW CRK and a REFINISHED one? Honestly, I can not tell a difference, though i'm rather new to crk
