This concept was just recently brought up in a questionnaire about Buck's Custom Shop.

The idea of a short run, limited availability knives in the Custom Shop.

I love the idea, and thought I would bring it up for discussion.....

Maybe a limited run of a 900 series skinner?
That would be so cool.
😎

My credit care just cringed!

A reproduction of 100 series knives in white Corian or white Phenolic (aren't cue balls white phenolic?) reminiscent of the 60's Melamine knives with thick spacers to mimic the original thick leather spacers. I'd buy the whole set...
A Twin Set sheath option if you order 2.
Where is this questionnaire?

I received an email with a link to the survey today. I believe I received the survey link because I ordered a custom 103 earlier this year.

It was emailed to me, an opinion survey of past Custom Shop customers. I almost deleted it, but curiosity got me.
It asked if I would be interested in this idea.

I got the survey .. I was positive on the idea of "limited availability" items from the custom shop. I suggested SureTouch G10 as an example. I also suggested limited runs of historic models like the 118 and 116.

I was very much against "express orders" i.e. paying extra money for faster Custom Orders. I want those knife makers to take their time and get everything just perfect,

I don't like the express option either.
Folks with money get to go to the head of the line...... Nah.

So sprint runs, basically. A flippers dream, unfortunately. I’m all for whatever they need to do to stay successful, but I’ve seen this kind of thing turn into a sort of elitism for a brand and how would that match up with Buck? I suppose a lot would depend on what type of limited editions were planned. I would love to be wrong, YMMV.

Yes, it would be cool. But the flipper comment is a major concern. Wouldn't want it to end up like GECs. I gave up on those. Can never buy those from the factory. It sounds like a strategy to charge more money by creating a scarcity. It is interesting they would ask about that because they don't even have any Legacy knives this year. The idea of making non-catalog exclusive knives screws their dealers. Maybe go back to allowing more SFOs. There were some fine releases by SK, Copper & Clad, SMKW, and the like back in the day.

A couple of ways this could happen:

1. Buck allows unlimited orders for a model for a limited period of time.

2. Buck allows a limited (pre-determined) number of orders and they sell out when that order number is reached.

#1 serves the consumer. #2 serves flippers and creates artificial scarcity. Id be a big fan of #1, not a fan of #2.

they could limit the quantity to "1" during the first week and so, and then make it unlimited after that
