Especially roses but also some berries can be a real pain if you have to do a lot of small cuttings - so a serrated & plain edge knife is probably the best way to tackle the very resistant beauties - any hint for the ideal knife for semi-professional gardener?

It should be resistant to corrosive plant fluid, small and a folder as the knife should be always around just in case I see a interesting cutting when meandering in the wild.

I gave a serrated Spyderco Tasman salt to a landscaper friend and he said it was perfect for his uses. Might be just the ticket for you.

Look at a hawk bill.

AG Russell makes a nice locking one.

GEC has some versions too.

+1 for the Tasman Salt. Fully serrated, rust-proof H1 steel, hawk bill blade, bright yellow handle.

I love mine.

For a general gardening hard use folder, a DPx HEST 2.0, hands down. The Roto-Lok feature is a plus for that. Also, when closing its design makes it an almost perfect pruner once you get the hang of it. This knife's toughness is what will set it apart from others and makes it perfect for gardening. I've even seen the occasional gardener here make mention of how well suited the HEST is for all the tasks in the yard.

For a fixed blade, I know a few companies make reasonably priced "garden knives" that have impressed me when I see them online.

i suggest AG Russell :D
