The ideal fixed blade tactical!!

I'm looking to purchase a fixed blade tactical knife... was looking at the AM SERE operator, BM Nimravus, SOG Seal, SOG Trident, Fallkniven A1, CS UWK as well as the older AM SOF Attack knives such as the 4000, but I couldnt find the right combo of shape, blade material and color, handle shape and material, and sheath. So, perhaps I'd be better off having a custom knife made, as I was willing to spend upwards of 200 anyway.

These are the ideal qualities that it would possess:

size: 9-12" overall, 4-7" blade

blade shape: like the Almar fighting knives but with a sharpened false edge, CS and SOG look a bit gaudy to me, Fallk looks too plain, and the BM's look too much like folders

blade characteristics: strong as the SOG seal, full tang, visible through handle like Spyd Bob Lum tanto, nimravus, or sere 4000 sof attack, with a finish like the trident or the lum tanto (mirrored for now, with a possibility of later model with boride carbon coating)

blade material: VG-10, S60v(CPM440v), or S30v(ATS34/154CM) ultra hard, strong, good edge-holding... nothing less!

handle shape: contoured to the average size hand, fills the palm for a secure grip

handle color: needs a customized look, but in black, perhaps a combo of black anodized aluminum bolster/pommel with shape as seen on the SERE 4000/SOF Attack, but meshed with a rubberized non-slip grip, in a similar fashion that the elishewitz or LCC folders blend carbon fiber with rosewood, titanium, and aluminum

handle material: something grippy and weatherproof like kraton, but more pleasing to the eye, definitely none of that G10 plastic crap

overall: build quality of a spyderco, affordability of cold steel (I know, not likely, but what the heck!), nice mix of form and function... hey, I'm no friggin navy seal, just a knife fanatic, so I would want the darn thing to look pretty and mean as well as make a cut, after all, looks are the first thing to attract us humans!

sheath material: kydex/ballistic nylon for concealment/quick release, but with an inside surface that will not scuff/scratch the blade, nor absorb water

ANY IDEAS?? Any custom makers willing to try this? Send me an email if you are... OR does a knife like this already exist?? I appreciate your help, and I think this would be an awesome tactical blade to own. Perhaps us fixed blade addicts should do what the balisong boys did, and design our own "ideal" fixed blade tactical knife. See http://www.1sks.com/store/benchmade-model-35-bladeforums-special-balisong.html Maybe this could be a benchmade or almar future project in collaboration with us knife-nuts!

thanks! checked out those sites and they definitely look like possibilities... any other suggestions for custom makers are appreciated!

I like the Wilson knives. He makes a 4" bladed tactical that comes in around the $195.00 range. The grip looks like retention would be great. Fast, assurred grab on that handle. Knife Art has some to look at; some other Wilson's on that site are more dressed out and therefore lots more in the dollar department.

Do you mean, www.bladeart.com

That's an interesting idea. I'm personally an odd ball around here for liking fixed blade tacticals much more than any folders. Actually, I'm now trying my best to replace my edc folders with fixed. Almost achieved that too.

Hey, take a look at the Buck Knighthawk. Except for the steel it pretty much has what you wanted. I've got one and really love it. Stronger than you would dare to imagine, and great handle. I carry it everyday. Infact I'd even say, if it wasn't for this Knighthawk, the only knife I'd want to replace it with is a Busse or Strider or Mad Dog which are ofcourse in a price range all their own and therefore too expensive for me right now.
really, I'm not joking. The Knighthwak is really the only fixed I want to carry that is in a similar price range. Oh wait, I also would like the Becker Companion. Another good one.
But except for those two only the Strider, busse, Mad Dog come into question for me. Obvious choice due to price.

Take a look at Swamprat Knifes.
The Battle Rat may be what you are looking for. I don't have a BR , but do have a HR and a Bandicoot. They are great knives for the money. Swamprat has a forum under Makers/ Manufs , you can find some reviews there. website is www.swamprat.com for ordering/ pricing info

Also to add: They have a Resiprene C handle, black coated blade and kydex lined cloth sheath.

Larry, no one knife is ideal. Also no one will work in your place. I would rather try to get possibly best performance for acceptable price.
size: 9-12" overall, 4-7" blade
Additionally there is the huge difference in performance between 4-inched blade and 7-inched one. Probably you should decide tougher what tasks you need your knife for.

There are a lot of very good reasonably sized production fixed blades, I’ll try to mention only the best I have personal experience with, with no particular order:
  • BENCHMADE Nimravus;
  • GERBER Yari;
  • Fallkniven – I would go rather with S1 if 5-incher needed or F1 for shorter blade;
  • SOG X-42 Field Knife – this is the heaviest knife I agree to carry in my laziness and the biggest one I can do something sensible and with reasonable accuracy;
  • SPYDERCO Bill Moran Featherweight (4”), Fred Perrin Bowie or Temperance (5-inchers);
  • KATZ KNIVES Lion Cub (5”) or Lion King if you definitely want bigger blade;
  • KA-BAR Impact series knives;
  • I could mention CRKT Companion with a clear conscience if it would have at least AUS-8 blade
Happy hunting :)
