If you are like me , you worry about rust on your blade's. I have found the perfect remedy to yhis problem ... RAIN-X . Just whipe it on , let it set up and buff, now you have a barrier to corrosion . It works great and a little bottle should last for a year or more.

How 'bout car wax?

Actually, if you use some sort of permanent barrier but used the knife...wouldn't you wear the barrier off the edge? Then you would have to oil the edge -- would that then dissolve the barrier behind the edge? Then you would have to oil that area, and keep eating the barrier, or let it rust, or clean and dry the blade and reapply barrier over the entire blade. Then what would be the point?

I don't know, just asking.

Actully this stuff gets down in the pores pretty good. It clings to all but the cutting edge for some time . To gaurd the edge against rust I spray silicon spray into the scabbard itself. Since doind this I haven't had any rust , including the blades that I use . About once every other month I reaply .

I've never used Rain X but I've been using Tuff Cloth and have had no problems with rust. I even used my AK for a couple hours and forgot to clean it off and left it out for a few days and didn't get rust. I'm not recommending this type of neglect but Tuff Cloth works for me.
