This is another post that is very tough for me to make but it is something that needs doing.
This is the James Mattis inspired Kumar Karda -- a project he was working on when he left us. The knives were with Terry Sisco for scabbards when Jim checked out. I felt a pang of melancholy when these arrived at the Cantina this afternoon because it made me remember talking with Jim on the phone several times when we getting the project on the air. He wanted Kumar to make these personally because he wanted Kumar's mark of the six pointed star, the Star of David, on all of them. He wanted the handles carved, each with a different motif. James personally inspected all these and passed them as excellent and then sent them to Terry and now here they are.
I am not ashamed to say there is a lump in my throat as I make this post. I liked Jim and I sure as hell am missing him! But carry on, Uncle, it's got to be done.
The knives were inspired by James and inspected by James. Need I say more than this? Anybody who knew him will know these knives are just about as good as you can get. If you want specs there are some around the forum and on my site. Since, Jim was unable to see the scabbards I'll do the review of these by simply saying they are excellently done by Terry and are a fitting sheath for such a knife.
Now, I have offered to sell these for Toni, Jim's wife, and that I will do. Whatever proceeds come from these knives will all go to Toni and I will pay the shipping cost myself so she will not have to bear that burden.
Jim was going to sell these knives for " around $100" and that is the price I will put on them, HOWEVER, knowing the proceeds will go to Toni if anybody wants to toss in a little extra know full well that this amount also will go where it should -- to Toni.
There are five of these knives available.
The first five emails that come in get these beauties that Jim would have been most proud to offer.
Jim, this one's for you and I know if the tables were turned you would be doing the same for me and mine. Have a pleasant journey, nephew!
